- AmeriCorps offers many opportunities for volunteer work within the United States. It is often
referred to as "the domestic Peace Corps," because both agencies are committed to
service, and both offer full-time opportunities. A stint in AmeriCorps usually lasts
10 months to one year.
Click here for more information about AmeriCorps - The Brethren Volunteer Service (BVS) has listings in 24 states and 19 foreign countries. It is committed to providing
food and shelter to those in need and building understanding between individuals,
groups, and nations.
Click here for more information about the BVS - Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) is an international organization set up to support teams of peace workers in conflict
areas around the world. These teams believe that they can lower the levels of violence
through nonviolent direct action, human rights documentation, and nonviolence training.
Click here for more information about the CPT - The Community Mediation Center in Norfolk, VA is looking for an Americorps VISTA Youth Programs Coordinator to start
at the end of January, 2009. Responsibilities include helping with youth peer mediation
trainings, maintaining accurate statistical data on youth program results, seeking
new grants to ensure program sustainability, maintaining youth marketing materials,
coordinating the annual "Youth for Peace" conference, as well as performing mediations
for the General District Court, as needed.

Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Its provides human and financial resources to more
than 200 community-based organizations. These organizations provide a range FSD ProCorps
Volunteer Program opportunities in microfinance, health, environment, youth and education,
women's empowerment, community development and human rights. Partner organizations
work in nine regions throughout Argentina, Bolivia, India, Kenya, Nicaragua and Uganda.

in Uganda. LACI lists some specific areas of need, but it is open to whatever your
interests may be.

ministries in more than 50 countries. MVS may also occasionally develop assignments
