The safety of self-balancing electric wheeled boards (hoverboards) has come in to question. The main issue is the fire hazard associated with the lithium battery. Juniata College is committed to the safety of our students and staff, and therefore, the Campus Safety Committee recommends the following policy:
At this time, effective immediately, the use, possession, charging and/or storage of these devices is prohibited on any property owned, leased or controlled by Juniata College. This policy will be in effect as we continue to monitor product information regarding the hoverboards until safety standards can be adequately developed and implemented on these devices.
