MEN'S VOLLEYBALL (13-12, 7-7 EIVA Tait): Apr. 21, EIVA Division I Quarterfinals at TBA.

Juniata started the week and ended the regular season with a 30-27, 30-28, 32-30 win at home over Division II East Stroudsburg on Tuesday evening. Seniors Kevin Moore (Webster/Webster, NY), a setter, and Bill Todd (Manheim Township/Lititz), an outside hitter, played in their final regular-season home match for the Eagles. Moore finished with 38 assists, seven digs and two blocks, while Todd turned in 13 kills, a .455 hitting percentage, eight digs and two aces in his finest performance of the year. Freshman outside hitter Javier Garcia (San Ignacio/Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) came off the bench and finished with 15 kills, two blocks, one dig and one ace. Sophomore libero Ryan Jackson (Cochranton/Cochranton) talllied a match-high 11 digs and he also had three assists. On Saturday, Juniata’s Division III season came to a close with a 20-30, 30-23, 30-26, 21-30, 16-14 loss to Vassar at New York University in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Division III semifinals. The Eagles were seeded second in the four-team field, while the Brewers were seeded third. Sophomore middle hitter Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) paced the blue and gold with 18 kills, a .485 hitting percentage, five blocks, two aces and two digs. Todd tallied 12 kills, five digs, five blocks and one ace, while freshman opposite Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) had 11 kills, five digs and three rejections. Freshman middle hitter Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) posted 10 kills, eight blocks, four aces and four digs. Moore distributed 57 assists to go along with 11 digs, three blocks, two kills and an ace.

BASEBALL (10-8-1, 3-3 Commonwealth): Apr. 9, Messiah (2); Apr. 13, York (Pa.); Apr. 14, Elizabethtown (2).

The Eagles split a doubleheader on Monday at Commonwealth Conference rival Moravian. The Greyhounds took the first game, 4-1, while Juniata earned a 2-1 victory in the second tilt. The rest of Juniata’s scheduled games for the week were postponed due to inclement weather and poor field conditions. In the opening contest at Moravian, senior left fielder Fred Heaton (Central/Roaring Spring) was 1 for 3, while sophomore third baseman Paul Evans (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) was 1 for 4 and scored a run. Junior pitcher Clint Wevodau (Northern Lebanon/Annville) threw three innings of scoreless relief. He gave up just two hits and no walks, while striking out two. In the second game, Wevodau went the distance and earned the win. He surrendered just four hits, no earned run, no walks and he struck out three to move to 2-3 on the year. Junior first baseman Tim Dobson (Millville/Millville, NJ) was 2 for 3 with one run scored, a double and an RBI. He plated Juniata’s first run with an RBI single in the first and scored the winning run after doubling in the sixth. Junior designated hitter Tim Keeley (Caledonia-Mumford/Caledonia, NY) ripped a two-out double in the sixth to score Dobson. Keeley was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a double in the game. Senior right fielder Lucas Kelleher (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) was 2 for 3 as well. Evans went 1 for 3, scored a run and had a stolen base.



MEN'S TRACK & FIELD: Apr. 12-13, Messiah Decathlon at Gettysburg; Apr. 14 at Bucknell Invitational.

The Eagles hosted their annual Blue and Gold Invitational at Knox Stadium on Saturday and took second behind Messiah. The Eagles tallied 194 points on the day, while the Falcons walked away with the team crown after posting 213 points. The 4x100-meter relay squad of sophomore Dusty Lehr (Bermudian Springs/New Oxford), sophomore Nick Wolfe (McConnellsburg/McConnellsburg), junior Ashley Mort (Blue Mountain/Orwisburg) and freshman Jimmie Gray (Frederick/Frederick, MD) set a school record with a first-place time of 43.51. Individually, Lehr led the Juniata men by placing first in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.58), the high jump (6-3) and the pole vault (13-6). He was also fourth in the long jump (18-9) and javelin (134-5) and sixth in the discus (99-0). Mort was first in the 100-meter dash (11.43) and 200-meter dash (22.94). Senior John Creuzberger (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) took first in the discus (131-2) and was second in the shot put (44-10 3/4). Senior Josh Kline (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) won the title in the javelin (180-10), was fourth in the discus (116-7) and placed fifth in the shot put (36-0). Wolfe was second in the 400 meters (51.41) and the 400-meter intermediate hurdles (59.02). The Juniata men's 1,600-meter relay unit also placed first (3:28.53).

The Falcon women posted 151 points to take first, while Juniata tallied 137 markers. Freshman Stefanie Rynkewitz (Lewistown/Lewistown) posted the highlight of the day for Juniata. She took first in the 400-meter run with a program record (1:00.29). In addition to winning the 400 meters, Rynkewitz placed first in the 200-meter dash (27.22). Junior Jessica Sprankle (Tyrone/Tyrone) took first place in the 100-meter high hurdles (16.67) and the 400-meter intermediate hurdles (1:09.56). Junior Jenni Anderson (Dubuque/Dubuque, IA) was first in the discus (101-8) and seventh in the javelin (90-7). Sophomore Hillary Bright (Juniata Valley/Spruce Creek) claimed the third in the 100 meters (13.91), fourth in the triple jump (33-11 1/2) and seventh in the long jump (15-0). Senior Kristy Wagner (Dover/Dover) was second in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles (1:10.54), third in the triple jump (34-5) and eighth in the long jump (14-9 1/2)..

SOFTBALL (8-8-1, 1-4 Commonwealth): Apr. 9, Lycoming (2); Apr. 10 at Susquehanna; Apr. 13, Widener (2).

Juniata began the past week by dropping a pair of contests, 3-2 and 10-2, at Commonwealth Conference foe Messiah on Tuesday. In the opening game, junior shortstop Brandy Preslovich (Bald Eagle Area/Moshannon) was 2 for 3, scored a run and had a stolen base. Freshman third baseman Cass Dutzer (Danville/Riverside) was 1 for 3 and knocked in two runs for the Eagles. In the second outing, freshman left fielder Amber Helsel (Claysburg-Kimmel/Claysburg) led the blue and gold offense with a 3 for 3 showing at the plate. Freshman pitcher/second baseman Becky Herr (Hamburg/Hamburg) was 1 for 2, including a double, and she scored once. Freshman left fielder Amy Gable (Kennard-Dale/Stewartstown) was 1 for 4 and knocked in a run. On Wednesday, Juniata traveled to Frostburg State and split a twinbill. The Eagles won the opener, 7-4. Gable was 3 for 4 at the plate, scored a run and had a stolen base. She also got the win on the mound, throwing seven innings, allowing three earned runs, walked six and struck out three. Sophomore right fielder Lauren Baker (Susquehannock/Spring Grove) went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a double. Sophomore center fielder Pam Michael (Baldwin/Pittsburgh) posted a 2 for 4 showing with a double and a triple. She scored twice and had two RBI. In the nightcap, Juniata lost, 2-1. Baker, who was 1 for 4 in the game, scored the only run in the outing for the Eagles with a solo home run in the top of the seventh. Dutzer was 2 for 4, while senior first baseman Hillary Della Penna (Pompton Lakes/Pompton Lakes, NJ) was also 2 for 4.
