FOOTBALL (2-3, 2-2 MAC): Oct. 18 at Albright*.

The Juniata football team exploded for 623 yards of total offense and piled up 32 first downs in topping Lebanon Valley 48-38. The 623 yards of offense were the most Juniata had achieved since their final game of the 1999 season. The game saw season and career highs established for several Juniata offensive players. Quarterback Greg Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale) accounted for 419 yards of total offense and five touchdowns in leading the Eagles to the win. Troutman completed 19 of 35 passes for 290 yards and four touchdowns, and ran for another 129 yards and a score. The passing total was a season high for Troutman who was named to the MAC Honor Roll for his efforts. It marks the third time in his career that Troutman has thrown for four scores. The recipient of a number of those throws was John Boyer (Indian Valley/Belleville) who tied a Juniata record with 15 catches for 209 yards and three touchdowns. Each of those numbers is a career high for Boyer. Tom Kimmel (South Range/Canfield, Ohio) caught three balls for 56 yards and a touchdown. Running back Craig Moshier rushed for a season-high 192 yards and a touchdown in the win. The 192 rushing yards is the second-highest total of Moshier?s career, behind only his school-record 222 yards, set in last season?s season finale. Coming on in relief of Troutman, Michael Meadows (Hollidaysburg/Duncansville) also threw a touchdown in the win. Anthony Lipple (Penn Cambria/Ashville) caught two passes for 32 yards.

Defensively Peter Thomas (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) led the team with 12 tackles, two for a loss, with two pass breakups. Frederick Wall (Big Spring/Newville) was also in double figures with 10 tackles one of them for a loss. Matt Garner (Bellwood-Antis/Tyrone) made eight stops, five of them solo, and a pass breakup. Steve Parson (Blackhawk/Beaver Falls) and Brandon Dieffenbach (Conrad Weiser/Robesonia) each had seven tackles. Parsons recovered a fumble and broke-up a pair of passes, while Dieffenbach had a pair of tackles for a loss. Jesse Leonard (Shade/Johnstown) punted three times for a 49.7 average per punt.

WOMEN?S SOCCER (5-8, 1-2 Commonwealth): Oct. 16 vs. Penn State-Altoona; Oct. 18 at Albright*.

Juniata picked up a huge win as they defeated Susquehanna for the first time in the program?s history 1-0 in overtime. Desiree Wagner (Harbor Creek/Erie) scored the game-winner in overtime off an assist from Nikki McLellan (Parkland/Hanover). Lindsey Treon (Hollidaysburg/Duncansville) made five saves in the match, earning the shutout. The win keeps the Eagles in contention for a Commonwealth Conference playoff berth. Juniata then dropped a non-conference match-up against Wilkes by a 1-0 score. Treon had five saves in the loss and has spearheaded the recent improvement of the Juniata defense. After a slow start to the season, the Juniata defense seems to have found its groove recently, as they have allowed just three goals in their last five games. Through Juniata?s first eight games, Treon held a goals against average of 3.37. Over the past five outings she has lowered that mark to 2.36.

WOMEN?S TENNIS (3-9, 2-5 MAC): Oct. 17-18 at MAC Individual Championships.

Juniata dropped their final regular season match of the season 9-0 to Messiah. Juniata will likely have several of their competitors playing at the MAC Individual Championships.

WOMEN?S VOLLEYBALL (26-0, 4-0 Commonwealth): Oct. 14 vs. Elizabethtown*.
*Commonwealth Conference match.

The Eagles now stand at a perfect 26-0 after winning five matches this week. Juniata claimed 3-0 wins over conference foe Messiah and Emory and took 3-1 wins over LaVerne, Simpson and Greensboro. Simpson, LaVerne and Emory are all ranked in the American Volleyball Coaches Association top-25. Juniata has held the top spot in that poll each week during the regular season. The win over LaVerne saw some personal highs established by several Juniata players. Johanna Holtan (Fargo North/Fargo, N.D.) notched a career high 41 digs in the match, while setter Carli Dale (Cochranton/Cochranton) also had a personal best with 30 digs in the contest. Katie Laucks (West York/York) tied a career high with 23 kills in the outing. Dale finished the week with 167 assists and 64 digs, with a team-best 5.33 digs per game. Holtan led the team with 87 digs on the week, good for 5.12 digs per game. Laucks led the team offensively with 71 kills a .393 attack percentage and eight serve aces. Freshman Stephanie Kines (Towson/Towson, Md.) pounded out 51 kills on the week with a team-high .473 hitting percentage and a team-best 14 blocks. Katie Charles (Manheim Township/Lancaster), Lindsey Habel (Glen Oak/Canton, Ohio) and Danielle Hart (Central/Roaring Spring) had 42, 40 and 39 kills respectively on the week. Charles added 50 digs, while Habel had 42 digs of her own. Melissa Berdine (Pine-Richland/Gibsonia) spelled Dale at the setter position and had 62 assists and 26 digs on the week. Jenn Habel (Glen Oak/Canton, Ohio) led the team with 16 kills in the Greensboro match and finished the week with 20 kills. With Juniata?s five wins on the week, Eagle coach Larry Bock moves ever-closer to the 1,000-win plateau. Bock now has 983 victories for his career, the most of any NCAA women?s volleyball coach.

FIELD HOCKEY (10-5, 2-2 Commonwealth): Oct. 18 vs. Moravian*;
*Commonwealth Conference match.

The Eagles captured three wins on the week, with their one loss coming in conference play. In a 3-0 win over Frostburg State Jean Silvey (Red Lion/Airville), Sierra Dickman (Foxcroft School/Marshall, Va.) and Grace McCluskey (West Perry/Elliotsburg) all scored in the win. Billie Rickenbaugh (East Juniata/McAlisterville) assisted on two of the goals. In a win over Washington & Lee the Eagles played to a 1-1 through regulation and then overtime before claiming the win on penalty strokes. Dana Groff (Solanco/Quarryville) scored the lone goal for Juniata during regulation and then Groff, Rickenbaugh and Betsy Kusniez (Boyertown/Gilbertsville) all converted their penalty strokes to give the Eagles the win. Juniata then closed out the week with a 4-2 win over Bridgewater. Silvey scored a pair of goals in the victory and Joanna Acri (East Pennsboro/Enola) and Rickenbaugh added one goal apiece. Elise Zimmerman (Cumberland Valley/Boiling Springs), Silvey and Kusniez all had assists in the win. Silvey had one more goal on the week as she scored Juniata?s lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Elizabethtown. Groff assisted on the score in the Elizabethtown outing. Goalkeeper Melonie Sappe? (Dallas/Shavertown) made ten saves in the four matches on the week, and recorded a 1.07 goals against average.

MEN?S AND WOMEN?S CROSS COUNTRY: Oct. 18 at DeSales Invitational

The Juniata College men?s and women?s cross country teams ran at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational with both teams earning solid finishes. Out of a field of 15 schools, the Eagle women placed fifth overall and the men?s squad finished seventh. Though exact finishing orders were not available, the athletes place within the team is known. On the men?s side Chris Sheaffer (Central York/York) was the top finisher for Juniata. He was followed by Justin Fritzius (Central York/York), Will Cantara (West Branch/Winburne), Mike Vella (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) and Josh Leasure (Mt. Lebanon/Pittsburgh) in that order. On the women?s side Katey Glunt (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) and Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) finished with the same time, but Glunt was given the top spot. Behind them were Lauren Gates (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona), Christina Jones (Fallston/Bel Air, Md.) and Carol Longnecker (Harrisburg/Harrisburg, Va.) finishing in that order for the Juniata women.

Juniata dropped their only match of the week with a 3-0 loss at Susquehanna. Juniata fired off five shots in the contest, but weren?t able to get on the scoreboard. Mark Guthridge (DuBois/DuBois) made three saves in the contest before Nathan Pugh (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) relieved him in net and made one stop. Juniata is still in contention for a Commonwealth Conference postseason spot.
