Huntingdon, PA ? Juniata College sophomore Katie Laucks (West York/York) earned Commonwealth Conference ?Player of the Week? honors for women?s volleyball. Juniata has claimed four of the six conference player of the week honors during the season.

Laucks helped Juniata to a perfect 5-0 week as she pounded out 55 kills with an impressive .495 hitting percentage. The sophomore middle hitter was in double figures in kills in four out of the Eagles? five matches, and hit .474 or better in each of those four outings. She notched 16 kills in Juniata?s 3-0 win over Williams College, the team ranked 22nd in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. She put away 13 attacks in a win over Indiana (Pa.) and finished 10 attacks in a conference win against Moravian and Wellesley. Laucks didn?t have more than two attack errors in any of the four matches. She also added 11 blocks, five serve aces and eight digs on the week, while averaging 4.23 kills per game.

For the season, Laucks is second on the team with 227 kills, an average of 3.98 kills per game. She leads the regular attackers with a .334 hitting percentage and is tops on the team with 41 blocks. She is second on the team with 27 serve aces and has brought up 49 digs. She is second in the conference in kills per game, and sixth in hitting percentage and blocks.

Laucks earned second-team All-Conference honors as a freshman, and was tabbed as an honorable mention All-Region performer. She knocked out 314 digs in her freshman season, and was second on the team with 93 digs.

With Laucks providing a big contribution, Juniata is undefeated and ranked first in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. Juniata was 21-0 through their first 21 outings and had dropped only five games through those 21 matches. They have defeated four teams ranked in the AVCA top-25 and will face three more over the weekend at the Emory (Ga.) National Invitational.
