Huntingdon, Pa. – After their exceptional performance in the American Mock Trial Association Regional Tournament from February 7-9 2019 at Pennsylvania State University, the Juniata Mock Trial Team has earned a bid to the opening round of the National Championship Series in Long Island, N.Y., which takes place from Friday, March 8 to Sunday, March 10.

At the regional tournament, Juniata’s Mock Trial team defeated Columbia University, Cornell University, New York University, Susquehanna University, Bucknell University, and Ithaca College. Sophomore Meadow Walshaw-Wertz, from Sunbury, Pa., was awarded an Outstanding Witness Award at the closing ceremonies.

Also earning bids to the opening round of the National Championship Series from the regional tournament were Cornell University, New York University, Columbia University, Pennsylvania State University, and the University of Scranton.

Members from the College’s Mock Trial Team who will be continuing to the opening round include senior Haley Walker from Altoona, Pa.; freshman Michaela Musselman from Bedford, Pa.; junior Meadow Walshaw-Wertz from Sunbury, Pa.; junior Olivia Drake from Hollidaysburg, Pa.; sophomore Anne Hoover from Curwensville, Pa.; sophomore Fiona Skinner from Camp Hill, Pa.; freshman Matthew Munoz from Worthington, Ohio; senior Rian Fantozzi from Glenshaw, Pa.; junior Colin Daly from Camp Hill, Pa.; and freshman Mitch Jellen from Telford, Pa.

“This team deserved to win at Regionals because they have been working diligently since August to prepare for this tournament,” says Attorney David Andrews, coach of the Juniata Mock Trial Team.

Prior to the regional tournament, the team had finished in first place at the St. Bonaventure Tournament and finished in the top five teams at the Johns Hopkins University tournament in January.
