BASEBALL (9-11, 4-6 Commonwealth): April 8 vs. Mt. Aloysius; April 9 at Pitt-Bradford; April 11 vs. Albright*; April 12 at Albright* (2); April 13 vs. Elizabethtown* (2).

A 1-2 week for Juniata as they played three games with conference foe Widener. Juniata got three solid pitching performances on the week, with only one of them earning a win. Ryan O'Donnell (Lebanon/Lebanon) allowed only three hits and two runs in picking up a win in the final game of the week for Juniata. O'Donnell fanned eight batters. Eric Bridenbaugh (Central/Martinsburg) and Jayme Fye (Philipsburg/Philipsburg) allowed one and two earned runs respectively in their starts, but didn't garner wins. Bridenbaugh tossed seven-plus innings surrendering six hits and two runs, only one earned and striking out seven. Fye allowed four runs, two earned in eight innings while striking out three. Offensively for Juniata Zach Sternberg (McCaskey/Lancaster) batted .500 for the week with five hits in 10 at bats and two RBI for the week. Matt Garner (Bellwood-Antis/Bellwood) and Marc Frailey (Middletown/Middletown) each had four hits on the week, including both of Juniata's home runs. Frailey drove in eight runs to lead the team, while Garner knocked in seven and scored four runs. Kodi Hockenberry (Red Land/Lewisberry) hit .333 with two runs scored.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL (14-7, 7-7 Commonwealth): April 11-12 vs. Molten Division III Championship.

Juniata won both of its games this week to claim their first EIVA Division III Championship since the 1999 season. The Eagles claimed 3-1 victories against NYU and Springfield College, and they head into next weekend's Molten Championship on a roll. Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) led the Eagles in kills in both matches, recording 17 and 18 kills in the two matches. Neil Lukas (Fairport, N.Y./East Windsor, N.J.) also had double figure kills in both matches, with 14 in both contests. Lukas and Genova were tops on the team in digs with 16 and 13 respectively over the weekend. Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh) dished out 98 assists on the weekend along with 10 digs and six blocks. Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) knocked out 18 kills and notched 11 blocks for the Eagles. Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) led the Eagles in blocks with six against Springfield, while Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) had 12 kills and six blocks as well against Springfield.

SOFTBALL (12-1, 2-0 Commonwealth): April 8 vs. Penn State-Altoona (2); April 10 vs. Gettysburg (2); April 12 at Moravian* (2).

Another week, two more doubleheader sweeps for the Juniata College softball team as they swept York and Lebanon Valley. The Eagles got some more solid pitching performances as they allowed two runs or less in three of the games. Renae Hobbs (Mount Union/Mount Union) won both of her starts allowing only nine hits and two runs while striking out eight in two innings of work. The freshman improved her record to 3-0 on the season and lowered her ERA to 1.38. Amy Gable (Kennard-Dale/Stewartstown) and Lizzie Bartosik (Penn/Granger, In.) also earned wins on the week. Gable allowed one run in six innings in a win over York. Amber Helsel (Claysburg-Kimmel/Claysburg) was a key part of the offense for Juniata on the week. Helsel batted .538 on the week, with seven hits, seven runs scored and three RBI. Beck Herr (Hamburg/Hamburg) had six hits in 13 at-bats good for a .462 average with a home run and four RBI. Gable, Pam Michael (Balwin/Pittsburgh), Sarah Patterson (Danville/Danville) and Leanne Leymeister (Blue Mountain/Orwigsburg) each batted .308 or better for the week. Leymeister drove in four runs, while Michael and Gable each scored three runs.

TRACK & FIELD: April 11 at Bucknell Outdoor Classic; April 12 at Messiah Invitational.

Solid performances for Juniata at the Western Pennsylvania Track and Field Championships which were held at Carnegie Mellon. It was the first scoring meet that the team has participated in this spring, with the men finishing seventh in a field of 10 teams and the women placing 10th out of 11 squads. Two of Juniata's top female athletes, Misty Heuston (Central/Martinsburg) and Kira Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale) competed at the College of New Jersey Heptathlon earlier in the week. The two Eagles finished fifth and sixth at the heptathlon competition. At the Carnegie Mellon meet on the men's side Scott Shacreaw (Blairsville/Black Lick) earned 10 points with a first-place throw in the javelin. Jeremy Weber (Garden Spot/Mohnton) placed second in the triple jump to earn eight points while Dusty Lehr (Bermudian Springs/New Oxford) placed fourth in the pole vault and 110-meter hurdles, and eighth in the 400-meter hurdles. Shawn Miller (Altoona/Altoona) also placed in the pole vault as he finished third and Jason Boyer (Indian Valley/Belleville) rounded out the scoring with a fourth-place leap in the long jump. For the women, Rebecca Shoaf (Madison/Madison, N.J.) notched 12 points by finishing second in the 400-meter dash, and fifth in the 400-meter hurdles. Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) and Stephanie Wasylyk (Honesdale/Uniondale) placed seventh in the 5,000-meter and pole vault respectively. Andrea Denkovich (Greencastle/Greencastle) closed out Juniata's scoring with an eighth-place finish in the javelin.
