HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Gene Kelly, associate dean of intercultural development/director of gender and sexuality programs at Lafayette College, will ask Juniata students and employees to play the game of LIFE, but with a twist. The diversity specialist will ask players to play several scenarios where life opportunities differ for different groups as part of a workshop at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, in the ballroom of Ellis Hall on the Juniata campus.

The workshop is free and open to the public. The workshop is part of the college's Beyond Tolerance series, in which diversity presentations are held once a month.

Called "Archie Bunker's Neighborhood," after the notoriously bigoted television character from the 1970s CBS situation comedy "All in the Family," the game is highly interactive and gives students the chance to create communities in the context of differences based on race, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status and other factors.

Kelly has worked at Lafayette since 2012. Prior to that he served on the faculty and in student services at Marywood University, in Scranton, Pa. He also has worked as a consultant for Pyramid Consulting Services.

Kelly was associate director of student activities at Lebanon Valley College from 2004 to 2008. He also worked as a residence life coordinator and coordinator of programs for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students at Lehigh University from 2003 to 2004.

Kelly earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and English in 2001 from Lebanon Valley University. He went on to earn a master's degree in higher education counseling in 2003 from West Chester University. He earned a doctoral degree in higher education administration at Marywood University.
