MEN'S BASKETBALL (7-3, 2-0 Commonwealth): Jan 13 vs. Pitt-Greensburg; Jan 15 vs. Susquehanna*; Jan 18 at Elizabethtown*.

The Eagles played only one game on the week, but it was plenty, as Juniata outlasted LaRoche in a three-overtime thriller. Jeff Lau (York Catholic/Glen Rock) tied his career high with 24 points to lead five Eagles scoring in double figures. The game was tied at 72 after regulation and each team had 20 points in the first two overtimes before Juniata outscored the home team 11-5 in the third overtime session to come away with the 103-97 victory. Travis Boyd (Juniata Valley/Barree) scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first "double-double" of the season. Tommy McConnell (Bishop Guilfoyle/Hollidaysburg) had 16 points and a team-high five assists. Craig Biller (Penn Cambria/Loretto) also added 16 and Travis Martin (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) chipped in 10 points. Five Eagle players logged more than 40 minutes of playing time for the game, and Lau logged 50 minutes of court time while McConnell was on the court for 52 minutes.

The Eagles dropped a pair of tough road contests this week falling 71-65 to Lycoming and then 64-53 against Grove City. Juniata held second-half leads in both contests, but couldn't hold on for the win in either. Jen LaCount (Westmont Hilltop/Johnstown) scored 30 points on the week, with 20 coming against Lycoming. She also grabbed 10 rebounds from her guard spot. Casey Shoup (Altoona/Altoona) netted 27 points in the two games, including a team-best 13 against Grove City. Shoup also led the team in assists in both contests, handing out a total of nine helpers in the two games. Jen Uhrich (Palmyra/Palmyra) scored in double figures twice, tossing in 10 points against Lycoming and recording 12 against Grove City. Uhrich also grabbed 13 rebounds in the two games. Freshman Kristen Kirk (Newport/Newport) reached double figures against Lycoming with 12 points, and Kelly Steinbeiser (Altoona/Altoona) had 12 rebounds and 13 points on the week for Juniata.

The Juniata College women's swimming team continued their strong season as they split a tri-meet against California (Pa.) and Lock Haven. The Eagles topped Lock Haven 69-53, while falling to the home squad by the same score.
Juniata got started quickly with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Dana Gais (Saltsburg), Cynthia Long (Emmaus/Emmaus), Kim Allen (Susquehanna Twp./Harrisburg) and Kathy Trainor (Upper Merion/ King of Prussia) finished .5 seconds behind Lock Haven and more than two seconds in front of California. Two members of that relay foursome provided some of Juniata's strongest individual performances. Kim Allen picked up first-place honors in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events. Dana Gais touched the wall first in the 200-yard backstroke, and finished second in the 100-yard backstroke. Other strong performances included Kim Dierolf (Boyertown Area/Barto) earning a second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle. Alissa Schneider (Mililani/Mililani, Hawaii) placed third in the 200-yard free and the 200-yard back. Kathy Trainor finished third in the 50-yard free, and Andrea Nulton (Tyrone Area/Tyrone) came home third in the 500-yard free.
