HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College Orchestra will explore the work of four major composers from different cultures, time periods and levels of fame in its fall concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 4, in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts on the Juniata campus.

Tickets are $5 for adults. All Juniata students are admitted free and students under age 18 also are admitted free. The Juniata College Orchestra is directed and conducted by Rebekah O'Brien, lecturer in music at Juniata.

The concert will open with a composition by Gustav Holst called "St. Paul's Suite." Holst, best known for his work "The Planets," wrote the piece to honor St. Paul's School for Girls, where he taught for three decades.

The string section of the orchestra will then play together on "Tango," by Astor Piazzola, an Argentine tango composer.

Next, the Juniata College Chamber Orchestra will perform "Gloria," by Antonio Vivaldi, a composition the group also performed at the college's Choral Union concert. In addition, the Vivaldi piece features vocal solos by Janice Mianulli, a voice instructor at Juniata, and Emily Wertz, a vocal instructor at Lycoming College.

he holiday season inspires the orchestra's performance of "The Nutcracker: Suite No. 1," a longtime favorite of Christmas dance aficionados written by Piotyr Tchaikovsky.
