Complete day one results, 2011 Landmark Conf. Outdoor T&F Championships

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College captured three individual titles - two by the men and one on the women's side - and completed day one in third place in both the men's and women's standings at the 2011 Landmark Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Saturday at Juniata's Oller Track at Knox Stadium.

Caroline Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford Township) won the women's 10,000m race with a Landmark championship-record time of 39:46.97, while Jess Koenig (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) was second (40:13.18). Casey Hoffman (Coplay, Pa./Parkland) was fifth in the event (42:07.26), as the Eagles picked up 22 of their 56 points on day one in the first event of the meet.

Juniata went two-three in the women's pole vault, as Stephanie Varner (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) was second after clearing the bar at 10-5 �½, while Lauren Taylor (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) was third at the same height. Both Varner and Taylor trailed Moravian's Abigail Schaffer, who made the NCAA Automatic qualifying mark after clearing a height of 12-11 �½.

Megan McQuillan (Severna Park, Md./Seton Keough) and Alyssa Grube (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) were fifth and sixth respectively in the 1500m run, McQuillan posting a time of 4:57.31 while Grube ran to a time of 4:58.33.

Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) was fifth (15-10 �¼) in the long jump, while Evan Beatty (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) was the high Juniata finisher in the women's discus with a throw of 96-8. Kristyn Ginter (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) had Juniata's best finish in the javelin, with a throw of 105-4.

The Juniata women finished the first day of competition with 56 points. Moravian holds the lead with 84 points, while Susquehanna is in second with 62. Catholic University (20 points) and Goucher College (6 points) trail the Eagles.

Nick Bauer (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) had one of Juniata's two individual championships in the men's meet, with his first place (21-6 �¾) in the long jump. Jeremy Hays (McMechen, W.Va./John Marshall) was third (20-6 �¼) in the event.

Justin Clapper (Buffalo Mills, Pa./Bedford) took first place in the discus with a throw of 131-1, and followed up with a fourth (12-11 �½) in the pole vault.

Nate Alter (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) added to the Eagle point total with a second (33:30.02) in the 10,000m run, with Kenny Goodfellow (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) placing fourth (33:57.95) and Pete Mullins (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills) finishing fifth.

In the javelin, Jack Iosue (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) was fourth (179-11), while Dustin Drake (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) was seventh (171-2).

The Eagles capped day one in third with 57 points, trailing Moravian (83 points) and Susquehanna (73 points). Merchant Marine (7 points), Goucher (6 points), and Catholic (5 points) round out the field.

Competition in the 2011 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships concludes on Sunday, starting at 9:00 a.m. with the trials and finals in the women's hammer throw.
