SCRANTON, Pa. -- Juniata women's swimming gains their first ever Landmark Conference dual meet win by defeating Goucher College 51-44, yet falls to the University of Scranton 58-33, in Scranton, Pa. this Saturday.

"Our girls swam their hearts out and I have never been more proud in my life," said Juniata head women's swimming coach Lauren O'Donnell.

"We won because of a 100 percent all out team effort," she added.

Juniata won every single event versus Goucher except the 500 Freestyle and the 200 Medley Relay. Due to the Eagles five deep roster they had to win almost every event to beat the Gophers.

Juniata last beat Goucher on Nov. 3 of 2006, 127-76. Scranton defeated Goucher today with a score of 58-37.

Evan Beatty (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) swam in the first event for Juniata to place third in the 1650 Freestyle with a time of 20:14.30, just 12 seconds behind Scranton's Aileen McGonigle. Beatty won the mile versus Goucher and finished the 500 Freestyle in 5:54.66.

In the girls 200 Freestyle Kelsey Miles (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) came in third with a final time of 2:10.42. She downed Goucher's Abigail Wegman by seven seconds. Miles also finished second in the 100 Freestyle in 58.03, less than a second behind the first place finisher, Jessica Meriono from Scranton.

Two Juniata swimmers raced in the 50 Freestyle against both Goucher and Scranton. Kathryn Viola (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) came in second in 26.57, while Haldis Andersen (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville) finished fourth in 29.25.

Viola also finished second in the 200 IM in 2:26.33, three seconds behind Scranton's first place Colleen McMahon. She placed second in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:14.06, beating the Gophers by four seconds.

Falon Snyder (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) swam the 100 Butterfly and finished second for the Eagles in 1:07.49. Snyder placed second in the 100 Backstroke in 1:06.00, 30 milliseconds short of first place and beat Goucher by four seconds.

The meet came down to the last event, the 200 Freestyle Relay. Juniata's Andersen, Snyder, Miles, and Beatty teamed up to place third in 1:52.83 and sweep Goucher.

The Eagles will face Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pa. to also compete with Dickinson College at 2:00 p.m. next Saturday, Nov. 20.
