Juniata opened its 2002 campaign with a 26-9 win on the road over the Dickinson Red Devils. Junior running back Craig Moshier (Coudersport/Coudersport) carried the load offensively for the Eagles, totaling 107 yards on the ground, and picking up another 39 yards as a receiver. Moshier also scored the two offensive touchdowns that Juniata would get on the day. Juniata fell behind early, as Dickinson scored on a 65-yard touchdown run on their first offensive possession. A seven-yard Moshier scamper gave Juniata its first lead, and then a fumble return for a touchdown by senior lineman Fred Taber (Calvert Hall College/Bel Air, MD) gave the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish. Moshier capped the scoring with a 35-yard TD gallop with 9:14 remaining in the contest. Sophomore quarterback Greg Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale) picked up right where he left off as a freshman when he was named MAC "rookie of the year." Troutman completed 25 of his 49 attempts for 268 yards. Senior wide out Nate Leach (Shade/Central City) grabbed eight balls for 106 yards, and Andrew Raup (Danville/Danville) added 75 yards on five catches. On defense, senior linebacker Jason Stouffer (Newport/Newport) recorded 10 tackles including 3 tackles for losses. Freshman linebacker Peter Thomas (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) led the Eagles in tackles with 12.5 including 11 solo tackles.

MEN'S SOCCER (1-2-1, 0-0 Commonwealth): Sept. 10 vs. Pitt-Johnstown; Sept. 14 at Lebanon Valley*

The Juniata men's team won its first game of the season at the SUNY Fredonia tournament, and tied another match in the tournament in earning a second-place finish. Juniata scored seven goals in three games during the week, ending play with a 1-1-1 record for the week. Nathan Ayres (Clearfield/Clearfield) and Joel Abe (Archbishop Hoban/Akron, Ohio) each scored two goals a piece in the weeks matches. Ayres also added an assist. The win came against Daemen College on the second day of tournament action. The draw came against Penn State-Behrend on the tournament's opening day.


WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL (5-0, 0-0 Commonwealth): Sept. 10, vs. Widener* (at Albright), at Albright*; Sept. 13-14, at Mercyhurst Invitational (Teams TBA). *Commonwealth Conference Match.
The Eagles maintained their perfect record by sweeping two matches over the weekend. Led by Danielle Hart (Central/Roaring Spring) who had 18 kills and 16 digs, Juniata topped Gannon University 3-0. The team then bested previously unbeaten Indiana (Pa.) by a 3-1 score. Niki Mueller (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) paced the offense with 25 kills and added three blocks. Hart tallied another 23 kills and 19 digs, and Johanna Holtan (Fargo North/Fargo, N.D.) had 26 digs against Indiana to go with the 20 she recorded against Gannon.

WOMEN'S SOCCER (3-1-0, 0-0 Commonwealth): Sept. 12 at Penn State-Altoona; Sept. 14, at Lebanon Valley*.

The Eagles split their two matches this week, both at the SUNY Fredonia tournament. After dropping the opener 2-0 against Fredonia, the women responded with a 2-0 victory of their own over Buffalo State. Amy Tyler (Altoona/Altoona) scored her first two goals of the season in the victory. Lindsey Treon (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) and Kira Troutman (Line Mountain/Valley View) combined for the shutout. It was Juniata's first shutout of the season.

WOMEN'S TENNIS (0-1, 0-1 Commonwealth): Sept. 10, vs. Clarion; Sept. 12 vs. Indiana (Pa.); Sept. 14, at Widener*. * Commonwealth Conference Match.
The Juniata women's tennis team dropped their first match of the season against Commonwealth power Moravian. The only point for Juniata came from Lindsey Dipaola (Cumberland Valley/Mechanicsburg) who won her singles match.

CROSS COUNTRY: Sept. 14 at Saint Francis Quad-Meet.
Both the men's and women's cross country teams opened up competition this weekend at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational. In a meet featuring mostly Division I schools the men finished 19th out of 20 teams, and the women finished 16th out of 17 teams. Top finisher for the men was Chris Sheaffer (Central York/York) who finished 157th with a time of 30:06.57. For the women, Michele Palmer (Littlestown/Littlestown) led the way with a time of 25:08.05, which was good for 111th place.

WOMEN'S FIELD HOCKEY (4-0, 0-0 Commonwealth): Sept. 12, vs. Indiana (Pa.); Sept. 14 vs. Dickinson.
The Juniata women's field hockey team continued to roll as they swept a pair of games on the road. The team started things off with a 14-0 rout of Washington & Jefferson. Grace McCluskey (West Perry/Elliotsburg) and Jean Silvey (Red Lion/Airville) each recorded a hat trick, and seven different players scored in the victory. The 14 goals set the record for the most goals in a game by a Juniata team. In the second game, Marie Lobaugh (Biglerville/Aspers) scored a goal and had an assist as the Eagles topped Slippery Rock 2-0. The Eagles have allowed only two goals in four games, while they have scored 20.
