ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Junior Suzi Lindquist's (Richmond, Va./Henrico) penalty stroke with 4:23 remaining in the first overtime period carried Juniata College field hockey to a 3-2 win over Elizabethtown College, Wednesday evening at Wolf Field.

Junior Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) was hauled down in the scoring circle on a breakaway, awarding Juniata (2-2) the penalty stoke. Lindquist came on to take the shot, burying it in the lower left corner for the win.

The corner salvaged a victory for the Eagles, after they allowed a 2-0 lead to slip away in the span of less than a minute with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game.

After taking a 1-0 lead into the halftime break, Juniata went ahead 2-0 with 8:15 remaining in the game on sophomore Jill McNeish's (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) goal. McNeish blasted a shot past E-town goalie Lindy Hamp, off a penalty corner feed by Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa./Pennsboro).

That two-goal advantage for the Eagles was short-lived.

E-town's Caitlyn Grimes got the Blue Jays on the board 59 seconds later, when she rammed home a goal off a scramble in front and to the right of Juniata goalie Moira Nugent (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg). A mere 33 second after the first Elizabethtown goal, the Blue Jays were awarded a penalty stroke and Julie Foster beat Juniata reserve goalie Janelle Howard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) to the lower left corner.

In overtime, each squad had several end-to-end rushes and quality scoring chances - but neither side was able to get a hard shot away with a good look at the goal. That set the stage for Amrod's attack two-thirds of the way through the first OT period, which finally produced Lindquist's game-winner.

Juniata produced the first half's only score with 8:32 remaining in the first half, when Price put a shot past E-town's Hamp from a nearly impossible angle. Price carried the ball across the top of the scoring circle and to the right of the Blue Jay cage, then turned to put a sharply-hit ball past Hamp into the far left corner of the goal.

The Eagles had two other outstanding scoring opportunities early in the opening half, but were unable to capitalize.

Lindquist was unsuccesful on her attempt to flip the ball over Hamp with approximately 15 minutes showing in the first half. About four-and-a-half minutes later, Amrod took a pass from Price and tried to b beat Hamp to the left side, but couldn't quite slip the ball inside the left post.

Juniata narrowly outshot Elizabethtown, 11-9, but held a commanding 9-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Nugent recorded three saves over the 80+ minutes in goal, while Hamp tallied five saves. Both Juniata's Joyce Eveleth (State College, Pa./State College) and E-town's Foster notched defensive saves.

Juniata heads to Salisbury, Md., this weekend to take part in the Salisbury University Invitational. The Eagles will face Randolph-Macon College on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 1:00 p.m., and will face either host and no. 1 ranked Salisbury or William Paterson College on Sunday, Sept. 12.
