HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College women's soccer team had its first home game of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 1 at Winton Hill Field. Although they had a strong preseason and scrimmage under their belt, they could not find the back of the net, dropping a 4-0 decision to the Lions.

Seven minutes into the game, Penn State Altoona forward Meredith Waters scored on Juniata. Juniata tried to keep their composure, however Laura Myers slipped in another in the 17th minute off of a corner. The third goal also came in the first half at the 21st minute from Alyssia Ketchem. Alyssia Ketchem had her second goal of the game in the 68th minute to make the final score 4-0.

In the first half, freshman Molly Sellars (Caldwell, N.J./Caldwell) showed an aggressive style of play as a defender, winning head balls and tackles early on. She maintained this style throughout the game. Freshman Jenna Rodrigue (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) also started the game and showed a similar effort defending.

Much of the second half was spent in the Lions' turf as Juniata's returning players and the newcomers had more composure and possessed the ball. Aimee Radic (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon Area) had a close shot on goal and freshman Paula Pryor (Westbrookville, N.Y./Burke Catholic) hit the crossbar with her shot. Sellars also hit the crossbar with one minute left in the match.

Nine of the 14 Juniata freshmen saw playing time in the first home game of the season.

Juniata returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 7, when it travels to Thiel College for a 1:00 match.
