SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- Juniata College senior Matt Bailey (East Petersburg, Pa./Hempfield) set a new school record in the men's 5000m run, highlighting Juniata results at Saturday's Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg University.

Bailey posted a time of 15:17.37 in the 5000m, finishing fifth in the event.

The Eagle distance and middle distance runners had the best day overall for Juniata. In the 3000m run, Ceth Parker (Sabillasville, Md./Catoctin) finished sixth in a time of 9:08.32, while Sam Williams (Roaring Spring, Pa./Central-Martinsburg) was 10th in 9:18.05 and Steve Schmitt (New Providence, Pa./Solanco) was 12th in 9:25.72.

Parker also finished 18th in the 1500m run with a time of 4:06.69, while Nik Klena (Franklin, Pa./Oil City) was 10th in a time of 4:02.99. Finally, Kenny Goodfellow (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) was third in the 10,000m with a time of 36:58.20.

TJ Breya (McClure, Pa./East Juniata) was third in the 400 hurdles with a time of 54.65 seconds, rounding out top men's track performances.

In the field events, Juniata had three performers place among the top 15 in the hammer throw. Ryan Johnson (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) was sixth with a throw of 43.33m, just ahead of Jeremy Boback (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) with a mark of 41.22m. Dustin Drake (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) was 15th with an effort of 34.58m.

Johnson logged a second top ten finish with his 10th place effort in the javelin, with a throw of 53.41m. In the discus, Justin Clapper (Buffalo Mills, Pa./Bedford) was 14th with a toss of 35.45m.

Nicholas Bauer was 12th overall in the triple jump, with a leap of 12.70m.

For the women, freshman Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) set the pace with her eighth place finish in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.54m.

Shaffer was one of several Juniata competitors to finish eighth in an event. Megan McQuillan (Severna Park, Md./Seton Keough) was eighth in the 3000m run with a time of 10:52.33, while Jess Koenig (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) was 17th with a time of 12:06.71. Stephanie Varner (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) also finished eighth in the pole vault, successfully clearing the bar at 2.90m.

McQuillan also posted a 12th place finish in the 1500m run, logging a time of 5:02.39.

Caroline Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford Township) was 12th in the 5000m run with a time of 19:39.35, and Kerri Magerowski (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) was 10th in the 3000m steeplechase in 15:16.52.

Juniata returns to action at the 2010 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will take place May 1-2 at Susquehanna University.
