HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College women's basketball was picked to finish fourth in the Landmark Conference in 2009-10, according to pre-season voting among the league's coaches and sports information directors.

Juniata garnered 50 points in the poll.

The University of Scranton, which claimed the first two Landmark Conference women's basketball championships, was the favorite to take the league title again this season; the Royals finished atop the poll with 77 points. Moravian College was second with 68 points, followed by Susquehanna University with 59 points.

Trailing the Eagles were Catholic University of America with 46 points, while the United States Merchant Marine Academy was sixth in the voting with 24 points.

Drew University (23 points) and Goucher College (17 points) were seventh and eighth in the poll respectively.

Juniata, 18-11 last season and ECAC Division III South Region champions, returns three of its top five scorers from last season. Junior forward Jen Hnatuck (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) leads the returnees with 10.0 points and 6.8 rebounds last season.

The Eagles open their 2009-10 campaign this Sunday, Nov. 15, when it faces the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in a road contest.
