SELINSGROVE, Pa. - A wet and wild morning led to two archrivals playing a crucial Landmark Conference field hockey contest at a neutral site. Juniata scored two first half goals and held off Catholic at the end to win, 2-1, at Susquehanna University on Saturday evening.

After Winton Hill Field was deemed unplayable, both teams traveled to Selinsgrove, Pa., to play on Sassafras Field on the campus of Susquehanna University.

Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) scored twice to lead the 18th ranked Eagles to their ninth straight victory. They are now 11-2 overall, and remain atop the Landmark Conference with a perfect 4-0 record.

Price's first goal came 7:50 into the contest. Her team leading 14th goal was assisted by Shauna Deschenes (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita). Juniata was able to take a 2-0 lead into the half when Price scored her second goal with 10:16 remaining, with the assist going to sophomore Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield).

The Cardinals put the pressure on the Eagles defensively, scoring with just over two minutes to go in the game. Meredith Chandler scored off of an Elizabeth Grumbein assist to cut it to one. Juniata was able to hold on, and come away with the 2-1 victory.

The Catholic goal snapped a streak of 333:57 minutes of goalless action for goalkeeper Denalyn Spratt (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights). Spratt made nine saves in 70 minutes of work. Catholic goalie Marian Cassilly stopped 10 shots by the Eagles.

Two more defensive saves were recorded by the Juniata defense. A game after Meghan McGlone (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) recorded five defensive saves, Dani Stump (Newport, Pa./Newport) stopped two more from going into the cage.

Price's two goals extend her goals streak to eight games, and her point streak to nine games. She has scored a goal or recorded an assist in all but one game this season; against Elizabethtown College where the team lost 1-0 on Sept. 9.

Juniata outshot Catholic (7-3, 2-1) 15-8, but the Cardinals were able to out corner the Eagles 16-9.

The team does not get much of a rest, as it travels to Alvernia University on Monday, Oct. 12, for a 6 p.m. contest against the Crusaders.
