SOFTBALL (10-8, 1-1 Commonwealth): Apr. 15 at Elizabethtown (2); Apr. 18, Franklin & Marshall (2);
Apr. 20 at Susquehanna (2); Apr. 21, Moravian (2).
Juniata registered its first doubleheader sweep of the season on Wednesday at Lycoming with a 6-4 eight-inning triumph in the opener and an 11-4 victory in the second tilt. The two squads were tied at 2-2 at the end of seven innings in the first game. The Eagles then struck for four runs on two hits and an error by Lycoming in the eighth. Sophomore first baseman Becky Herr (Hamburg/Hamburg) had a two-run single in the frame. Lycoming came back with two runs in the bottom of the frame and loaded the bases before Juniata was able to record the final out. Senior pitcher Christie Matthews (South Williamsport/South Williamsport) went the distance for Juniata and got the win. She is now 7-4 this year. She gave up nine hits, three earned runs and walked three. Herr was 2 for 3 with a double, a run scored and four RBI. Senior shortstop Brandy Preslovich (Bald Eagle Area/Moshannon) was 2 for 4 and scored once, while sophomore third baseman Cassandra Dutzer (Danville/Riverside) was 2 for 4 with an RBI. In the second game, sophomore pitcher Amy Gable (Kennard-Dale/Stewartstown) toed the rubber starting in the fifth frame and got the win. She replaced sophomore Amber Helsel (Claysburg-Kimmel/Claysburg), who got the start and lasted four innings. Gable gave up just two hits, no runs, walked none and struck out two to move to 3-3 on the season. Helsel, who moved to left field after pitching, went 3 for 4 with a run scored and three RBI in the contest. She had a two-run home run to centerfield in the top of the sixth to give Juniata a 6-4 lead. Freshman designated player Allison D'Ambrosia (State College/Boalsburg) was 3 for 3 and scored twice, while sophomore second baseman Jean Silvey (Red Lion/Airville) had two hits in four at-bats. Silvey also scored twice and had two RBI. Juniata's home outings with Moravian on Saturday were postponed due to rain.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL (9-13, 5-9 EIVA Tait): Apr. 19, EIVA Division I Quarterfinals at TBA.
Juniata, ranked fourth in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Poll, snapped a five-match losing streak on Wednesday evening with a 30-28, 30-25, 31-29 victory at Division II East Stroudsburg in non-divisional action. Sophomore opposite Javier Garcia (San Ignacio/Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) had nine kills and three aces to pace Juniata. Junior middle hitter Chris Jones (Lower Merion/Wayne) had eight kills and four blocks, while junior outside hitter Neil Lukas (Fairport/Fairport, NY) posted six kills and four digs. Junior Nate Kincel (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) came off the bench to lead the blue and gold in blocks with five and he had four digs as well. Junior setter Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh) played just one game and had 15 assists, four digs and two aces. Freshman setter Ricky Ziegler (Northeastern/Manchester) had 24 assists in two contests.

WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD: Apr. 20 at Gettysburg Invitational.
The Eagles journeyed to the Bison Outdoor Open on Saturday for a non-team scoring outing that involved 12 teams from mostly upper-division schools. Freshman Kira Troutman (Line Mountain/Valley View) placed third in the javelin (40.14 meters), while sophomore Stefanie Rynkewitz (Lewistown/Lewistown) placed seventh in the 400-meter dash (1:00.17). Junior Cheryn Courtney (Mercer/Mercer) took ninth in the discus (29.34 meters) to complete Juniata's top-10 showings on the day. The 4x100-meter relay team took seventh (54.34), while the 4x400-meter relay squad finished eighth on the day (4:22.80).

BASEBALL (12-13, 6-7 Commonwealth): Apr. 15, Pitt-Bradford; Apr. 17, Albright (2); Apr. 18, Lebanon Valley; Apr. 20 at Lebanon Valley (2).
Juniata traveled to Geneva College for a single game on Wednesday afternoon and dropped an 8-3 decision to the hosts. The Eagles were down, 8-0, after four full innings. Juniata was held to seven hits by five different Tornado pitchers. Freshman left fielder Paul Berry (North Hagerstown/Hagerstown, MD) was 2 for 3 with a run scored, while senior second baseman Jamie Campbell (Muncy/Muncy)) was 1 for 2 with a pair of RBI. On Friday, senior pitcher Clint Wevodau (Northern Lebanon/Annville) tossed eight innings of eight-hit baseball and gave up just one earned run, while sophomore center fielder Kodi Hockenberry (Red Land/Lewisberry) had a grand slam as Juniata downed host Albright, 9-3, in Commonwealth Conference action. Wevodau lasted eight frames in the nine-inning affair, while sophomore Eric Hatten (DuBois Area/DuBois) tossed the final inning for the Eagles. Wevodau struck out five, walked none and improved to 5-1 on the season. Hatten gave up one hit and struck out two. Senior right fielder Lucas Kelleher (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) had a 3-for-5 showing at the plate. He scored once and knocked in two runs. Senior first baseman Tim Dobson (Millville/Millville, NJ) was 2 for 5 with a run scored, while sophomore shortstop Marc Frailey (Middletown Area/Middletown) was 2 for 5 with an RBI. Hockenberry, who came off the bench in the bottom of the third inning, was 1 for 4 with four RBI and a run scored on his sixth-inning grand slam. His blast to left field gave the Eagles an 8-0 advantage at the time. Juniata's home doubleheader on Saturday with Albright was postponed due to rain.

MEN'S TENNIS (2-7, 1-4 MAC Commonwealth): Apr. 16 at Susquehanna; Apr. 18 at Penn State-Altoona.
Juniata won its second match of the year with a thrilling, 4-3, triumph at Widener on Wednesday. Junior Satoshi Kimura (LB Pearson College (CA)/Nasano, Japan) tallied a come-from-behind, three-set victory at first singles to prove to be the difference on the day. The first singles match was the final one to be completed in Chester. Kimura was a winner on the doubles scene with sophomore partner Scott Noerr (Lewistown/Lewistown). The first doubles team won 8-5 in a pro-set. Senior Ethan Gibbel (Warwick/Lititz) earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory at fourth singles and was an 8-0 pro-set winner at second doubles with freshman David Bullock (Central Bucks East/Jamison). On Saturday, Juniata had its home outing with Elizabethtown postponed due to rain.

MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD: Apr. 20 at Gettysburg Invitational.
Juniata had 75 percent of its team in attendance at the Lebanon Valley Invitational on Wednesday and placed third with 46 points. The host Dutchmen won the outing with 84.5 markers. Senior Ashley Mort (Blue Mountain/Orwisburg) took first place in the 200-meter dash (22.6), while junior Noah Fredette (Weedsport/Weedsport, NY) placed first in the 1,500 meters (4:19.0). Freshman Ben Beas (Kiski Prep/Johnstown) was first in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles (56.6) and was second in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.8). Senior Ben Cole (Lakeland/Carbondale) was the winner of the discus (120' 8") and took second in the shot put (42' 2 ½ "). Junior Scott Shacreaw (Blairsville/Blacklick) was third in the hammer throw (104' 7") and fourth in the shot put (36' 3 ½"). Sophomore Jason Boyer (Indian Valley/Belleville) was third in the long jump (18' 7 ½") and third in the triple jump (39' ½"). The 4x100-meter relay team for Juniata placed second (44.6), while the 4x400-meter unit was second (3:32.5). Juniata traveled to Lewisburg, Pa., for the annual non-team scoring Bison Outdoor Open on Saturday. A total of 12 teams were in attendance on the day and most of them were upper-division foes. Junior Dusty Lehr (Bermudian Springs/New Oxford) was first in the 110-meter high hurdles (14.91), while Beas was seventh (16.34) in the same race. Lehr was also fifth in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles (56.23) and seventh in the pole vault (12' 9"). Beas took seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (56.79). Cole placed third in the shot put (41' 7 ¼") and eighth in the hammer throw (85' 8 ½"). Freshman Jeremy Weber (Garden Spot/Mohnton) was fourth in both the long (22' 2 ½") and triple (13.01 meters) jumps. Shacreaw took fifth in the hammer (111' 3") and fifth in the javelin (54.68 meters). Sophomore Jimmie Gray (Frederick/Frederick, MD) placed ninth in the 400 meters (51.12), while junior Jeff Spotts (Mifflinburg/Lewisburg) was ninth in the hammer (85'). The 4x100-meter relay team for Juniata placed sixth (43.6), while the 4x400-meter unit was sixth as well (3:29.31).
