HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Former Juniata College women's volleyball player Amber Thomas (Ephrata, Pa./Conestoga Valley) has been named the Landmark Conference's nominee for the 2009 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Thomas, a four-time American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American and two-time AVCA Division III Player of the Year, is among 132 conference nominees from all three NCAA divisions, and seven nominees from independent institutions, vying for the award.

A committee composed of representatives from NCAA institutions and conferences will select the top 30 - 10 from each division - from the conference and independent nominees. From the top 30 honorees, nine finalists - three from each division - will be chosen. The national winner will be announced during the 2009 NCAA Woman of the Year dinner on October 18 in Indianapolis.

Thomas earned ESPN The Magazine First team Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) during her senior season, and was the CoSIDA College Division Women's Volleyball Academic All-America of the Year.

During her final season on College Hill, Thomas led the Eagles to a 35-5 record, reaching the national semifinals of the 2008 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship in Bloomington, Ill. She finished the season with 385 kills (3.81/set), with 218 digs (2.16/set) and 43 total blocks (0.43/set). For her career, Thomas ranks fourth among Juniata all-time kills leaders with 1,734.
