HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Juniata College men's and women's tennis teams opened the spring portion of their 2008-09 schedules with wins over Trine University (Ind.), Monday afternoon in Hilton Head, S.C.

The Juniata women posted a 7-2 win over Trine. The Eagles were led by Katie Steinour (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg), who did not lose a game all day as she won her no. 4 singles match 6-0, 6-0, then teamed with Lauren Perow (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) to record an 8-0 win at no. 2 doubles.

Maggie Wolenter (Audubon, N.J./Audubon) and Hilary Walsh (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro Area) also teamed up to go 8-0 at no. 3 doubles against the Thunder's Samantha Kalakay and Andrea Junk. Junior Amanda Fontana (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) had to come-from-behind to win her no. 1 singles match, 1-6, 6-4, 11-9, over Trine's Amber Crosby.

On the men's side, the Eagles received a comeback win from Casey Chew (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) at no. 6 singles to secure a 5-4 win over Trine.

Chew dropped the first set to Trine's Mario Bonardi, 7-5, but rebounded to win the second set 6-1 and carry the tiebreak, 10-5.

Arnab Chakrabarti (Alpharetta, Ga./Alpharetta) also posted a thrilling win at no. 4 singles over Trine's Brad Wood, winning the first set, 6-3, but dropping the second set, 6-2. Chakrabarti took the match by winning a lengthy tiebreaker set, 16-14.

With the wins, the Juniata men improved their record to 4-1, while the women's squad bumped its record up to 3-2.

Both squads return to the courts tomorrow, with the men facing Eastern Nazarene College while the women's team will meet Olive College.
