ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- An Elizabethtown College goal in the waning minutes of regulation broke a 1-1 tie and allowed the Blue Jays to sneak past Juniata College 2-1, in men's soccer action Thursday night in Elizabethtown, Pa.

E-town took a 1-0 lead just 55 seconds into the contest, when Cameron Gettel scored on a blast from 15 yards out.

That lead held until the 77th minute, when Bryan Hess (Hanover, Pa./South Western) got inside of the Blue Jay defense and finished for his fourth goal of the season. Fred McNeal (Towanda, Pa./Troy) was credited with the assist.

The Blue Jays avoided the looming overtime when Geoff Cochrane scored in the 88th minute off a corner kick, with the assist going to Andrew Filewicz.

Senior keeper Ted Sonneborn (Syracuse, N.Y./Manlius Pebble Hill) recorded four saves over 90 minutes in the Juniata goal, while Blue Jay keeper Jeff Mullen had three saves. Elizabethtown outshot Juniata 13-7, and had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Juniata (5-10-1, 0-4-1 Landmark) returns home this weekend to face the United States Merchant Marine Academy in a Landmark Conference match on Winton Hill Field in Huntingdon. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
