HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College baseball took game one of its weekend series against Landmark Conference foe Susquehanna University 9-0, on a rain--soaked Langdon--Goodale Field, Friday afternoon in Huntingdon, Pa. Juniata's senior right hander Jay Enoch (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) sent 13 batters back to the bench on strikeouts, improving his record to 6-2 and allowing only two walks and two hits. With the game tied at zero going into the fourth, junior Dane Ott (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) and senior Steve Wilk (Blairsville, Pa./Blairsville) scored off a double to right field from sophomore Andrew Kriss (Forest Hill, Md./John Caroll). Juniata used a pair of defensive plays to cut short Susquehanna rallies. With one out in the top of the sixth, John Lunardi lined out to Wilk at third who threw to Kevin Small (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) at second, catching Barry Fetter off the bag to complete a double play. The Eagles brought in another run in the seventh, sending freshman John Martinez (Mt. Union, Pa./Mt. Union) home on a sacrifice fly to left field from senior Shawn McDonald (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bishop Canevin). Susquehanna's only hits came later in the game when Fetter doubled to right center in the sixth and Don Kirkland singled in the seventh with two men on and no outs. Juniata's scoring continued into the eighth, bringing in three runs off only two hits. Wilk singled in one run with a base knock into left field that scored Greg Hoffman (Pheonix, Md./Dulaney). Small and Matt Sullivan (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) both reached on walks and eventually scored on wild pitches for Juniata's other two runs of the inning. Brian Ahearn took the loss for the Crusaders with seven hits and seven walks. Jason D'Amico relieved Ahearn in the fifth, allowing four hits and four runs. Kriss finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI, while Wilk and Small each went 2-for-3 with two walks.
