BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Juniata College softball dropped both games of a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Moravian College on Sunday afternoon in Bethlehem, Pa., falling 6-2 to the Greyhounds in the first game and 10-0 in five innings in game two. Juniata (11-12, 1-5 Landmark) trailed the 'Hounds 3-0 after the first inning, thanks to a three-run double by Maria DeBonis. The Eagles broke Moravian's streak of 47 innings without being scored upon with a single run in the top of the second. Liz Schmitt (Knoxville, Tenn./H. Frank Carey, N.Y.) hit a double into left field to lead off the inning, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Caley McCool (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley). She eventually crossed on Denalyn Spratt's (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) RBI single to center field. Moravian (15-5, 4-0 Landmark) posted one run in the second inning and two more in the third, before Juniata broke onto the scoreboard again in the fifth inning. Tara Carl (Duke Center, Pa./Otto-Eldred) reached on a single to right-center, advanced to second on a bunt by Stacy Nagy (Millerton, Pa./Troy), and scored following Rachel Nagy's (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) grounder to third, when Moravian first baseman Sheri Bieniek committed a throwing error. Juniata starter Alyssa Erb (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) allowed six runs, all earned, on six hits and five walks while striking out two Greyhound batters, while seeing her record fall to 7-6. DeBonis, who started in the circle for Moravian, fanned nine Eagle batters and scattered five hits on her way to the win. In game two, Moravian scored two runs in the first, tacked on four more in the second, and were well on their way to a 10-0 win in a game shortened under the 'mercy rule'. Erica Klepeisz keyed Moravian's four-run second with a two-run single to left field. DeBonis opened a three-run third inning for the Greyhounds with a solo home run center field, while Stephanie Falzarano had a two-run double to left field later in the inning. Carl and Amanda Albanese (Hampton, N.J./North Hunterdon) were the only Eagle batters to collect hits off Moravian starter Elizabeth Python, who struck out four Juniata batters while notching the win. Juniata starter Pam Mansell (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley) went all four innings for the Eagles and took the loss, falling to 3-6 for the season. The Eagles return home for three games this week, beginning with a non-conference tilt against Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, April 9, at 3:00 p.m. on Weis Field in Huntingdon, Pa. -30-
