MEN'S VOLLEYBALL (2-2, 1-0 EIVA Tait): Feb. 5 at Penn State; Feb. 8, Princeton, Feb. 9, New York Univ.
In an early "big" small school match on Friday evening, visiting Springfield (MA) defeated host Juniata, 30-26, 32-30, 27-30, 30-25. The Pride is ranked second in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Poll and is the defending Division III national champion, while the Eagles are rated third in the same rankings. For Juniata, junior middle hitter Luke Manion (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh) hit .529 on nine kills, no errors and 17 swings. He registered 14 points on his nine kills, one solo block, six assisted blocks and one ace. Sophomore opposite Javier Garcia (San Ignacio/Guaynabo, PR) had 13 points on nine kills, two aces and four assisted blocks. He paced the Eagles in digs with 10. Sophomore middle hitter Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) had nine kills, four assisted blocks and one ace to end the night with 12 points. Junior setter Scott Kofmehl (North Allegheny/Pittsburgh) did not start this evening due to an ankle injury, but he came off the bench to pass out 22 assists. Sophomore libero Pat Shawaryn (Hempfield/Lancaster) had nine digs. Juniata rallied from a 2-0 deficit to come back to defeat visiting Concordia (NY) on Saturday afternoon, 24-30, 30-32, 30-24, 30-23, 15-12. The match was the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Tait Division opener for the Eagles. Garcia had 19 kills, six blocks, five digs and five assists to lead Juniata. Sophomore outside hitter Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) registered 19 kills, five digs and one block, while Eiser added in 10 kills and eight rejections. Manion had eight kills on 10 swings and did not commit an error for the second straight match. Kofmehl had 57 assists, eight digs, six kills and three blocks.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: Feb. 9 at Franklin & Marshall.
On Saturday, Juniata competed at the non-team scoring Slippery Rock Open. Sophomore Jimmie Gray (Frederick/Frederick, MD) placed fifth in the 200-meter dash (24.06). Senior Toni Yorks (Indian Valley/Burham) was second in the 400-meter run for the Eagle women (1:09.50).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (10-11, 6-4 Commonwealth): Feb. 6, Susquehanna; Feb. 9, Albright.
On Tuesday, Messiah rallied from a 10-point deficit in the second half and posted a 53-48, come-from-behind triumph at Juniata in Commonwealth Conference action. The Falcons are ranked 11th in the latest D3Hoops.com national poll. Messiah has now posted 17 straight victories in the all-time series with the Eagles. Senior forward Brandy Preslovich (Bald Eagle Area/Moshannon) had 21 points and 13 rebounds to go with two assists and one rejection. It was her sixth double-double of the year and the 18th straight game that she has scored in double figures. Freshman center Katie Charles (Manheim Township/Lancaster) ended the night with season-high 12 points and nine boards. Senior guard Kelly Grove (Penns Valley/Spring Mills) had six points and tied a career-best with six assists to go with two steals. Juniata moved a step closer to clinching a spot in the Commonwealth post-season on Saturday afternoon with a 64-48 road win at Elizabethtown. Preslovich reached double figures for the 19th straight game and led the blue and gold with 16 points and five rebounds. Charles had 12 points for the second straight game and nine rebounds, while Grove posted 11 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals.

MEN'S BASKETBALL (9-11, 2-8 Commonwealth): Feb 5, Susquehanna; Feb. 9, Albright.
Dickinson handed Juniata its fourth straight loss, 79-66, on Monday evening in a non-conference game played in Carlisle. Overall, Dickinson knocked down 12 three-pointers in the game. It was the final non-conference game for Juniata as it will end the regular season with six consecutive Commonwealth Conference outings. Senior guard Shane Crandall (North Allegheny/Doylestown) paced Juniata with 17 points, while sophomore forward Travis Martin (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) added in 12 and senior forward Dave Reddick (North Hills/Pittsburgh) had 10 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward Ben Gallagher (Butler/Butler) ended the night with eight points and eight rebounds. Messiah scored 16 of the game's first 18 points at Juniata on Wednesday evening and never looked back during a 75-51 Commonwealth victory. It was the first conference win of the year for the Falcons. For the Eagles, Crandall had 16 points, including 14 in the second half, while Reddick finished the night with a game-high nine rebounds and seven points. Gallagher shared rebounding honors with Reddick as he pulled down nine boards and Gallagher also had seven points. On Saturday, Elizabethtown moved one step closer to clinching the conference regular-season title with a 96-49 win over Juniata. The Blue Jays ranked fourth in Division III. The Eagles got a career-best 15 points from sophomore forward Greg Ebert (Forbes Road/Waterfall). He also had five rebounds. Crandall had eight points for Juniata.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING (3-7, 1-4 MAC Commonwealth): Feb. 15-17 MAC Championship at Widener.
Juniata wrapped up the 2001-02 regular season on Saturday afternoon with a 125-71 loss at Division II Millersville. Sophomore Kim Allen (Susquehanna Township/Harrisburg) won the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.40) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:34.12). Freshman Kathleen Trainor (Upper Merion/King of Prussia) took second in both the 100- (58.45) and 200-yard (2:07.39) freestyle races. Freshman Heidi Blasenak (Central Dauphin/Harrisburg) placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:52.10), while freshman Amy Fletcher (Ephrata/Ephrata) was the runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly (2:30.47) and senior Katie Lloyd (Liberty/Bethlehem) was second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:37.02).
