MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Juniata College softball team pounded out 16 runs on 21 hits and rolled past Green Mountain College, 16-2, Tuesday morning in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The win was the first of the season for Juniata (1-2), after dropping both games of a doubleheader on Monday. Sophomore righthander Alyssa Erb (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) struck out 15 Green Mountain batters and scattered four hits in 7.0 innings of work to pick up the win. At the plate, five Eagle batters collected at least three hits in the win. Liz Schmitt (Knoxville, Tenn./H. Frank Carey, N.Y.) went 3-for-6 with two doubles and four runs batted in, while Stacy Nagy (Millerton, Pa./Troy) went 3-for-3 with three RBI. Juniors Tara Carl (Duke Center, Pa./Otto-Eldred) and Jackie Morley (North Wales, Pa./Archbishop Wood) each plated a pair of runs on three hits, while Rachel Nagy (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Sophomore Sarah Eckard (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) also went 3-for-4 on the day. The Eagles wrapped up the day with a 7-5 loss to Frederick (Md.) Community College in an exhibition game. Stacy Nagy pitched two complete innings in her first start and was charged with the loss, while junior Pam Mansell (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley) came on in the third inning and pitched five innings in relief. Mansell helped her cause offensively as well, driving in a pair of runs on one hit. Rachel Nagy hit four singles against Frederick, while Schmitt went 2-for-2. Juniata will continue spring break play on Wednesday with games against Philadelphia Biblical University and Neumann College. -30-
