KINGS POINT, N.Y. - The Juniata College women's swimming team chalked up 32 points on the opening day of competition at the 2008 Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, held at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.

Fresman Lindsay Cooper (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) was Juniata's top finisher with an fourth place result in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 26.08.

Senior Kasey Brough (Gardners, Pa./Carlisle) was the only other Eagle swimmer to advance from the afternoon preliminaries into Friday night's championship and consolation events; Brough finished 10th overall in the prelims for the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:42.66, then finished sixth in her consolation final - 12th overall - with a time of 5:44.85.

The Juniata team of Rachel Gipe (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal), Kelly Serfling (Frederick, Md./Urbana), Brough, and Cooper placed fifth in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:49.47, earning 20 points for the Eagles.

Serfling placed 16th in the prelims for the 200 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:37.62.

Competition at the Landmark Swimming & Diving Championships will continue on Saturday, Feb. 16, with preliminaries at 11:00 a.m. and finals at 6:00 p.m. The meet concludes on Sunday, Feb. 17, with prelims at 11:00 a.m. and the last round of finals at 5:00 p.m.
