HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Michelle Campbell (Annville, Pa./Northern Lebanon), a senior on the Juniata College field hockey team, has been named the Landmark Conference Field Hockey Senior Scholar-Athlete for 2007-08. A committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors selected the recipients, choosing one senior from each of the fall sports sponsored by the conference. Nominees were required to have a 3.20 or higher grade-points average, and were selected based on their accomplishments in all areas of college life, including athletics, academics, and other extracurricular activities. Campbell played a major role in some of the most successful seasons in the history of Juniata field hockey. She was a National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) First team All-South Atlantic Region selection this past season, earning all-region honors for the first time in her career. She twice received all-conference distinction, and was a First team All-Landmark Conference honoree this past season with 12 goals and one assist for 25 points, including seven game-winning goals. Campbell was fourth in the Landmark in goals (0.50/g) and fifth in points (1.04/g). She closed her Juniata career with 25 goals and 11 assists for 61 points, and is currently ranked sixth among Juniata career goals leaders and eighth in career points. Campbell helped Juniata field hockey post a 59-24 record during her four seasons on College Hill, including three NCAA tournament appearances and the program\'s first conference championship crown. Campbell is an environmental communications major, and a two-time conference Academic Honor Roll student. She captured first place at the 2007 Pennsylvania Communication Association Undergraduate Writing Competition, and will be presenting at the 2008 National Conference on Undergraduate Research. She has been Secretary of SPEAK, Juniata\'s communications club, in each of the past two academic years, and completed an internship in the Juniata College Office of Alumni Relations this past fall. Juniata finished its 2007 season with a 21-3 record, setting a new program record for wins. The Eagles received an at-large berth in the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship, the program\'s third NCAA appearance, defeating Johns Hopkins and defending national champion Ursinus College before bowing out against Lebanon Valley College in the regional final. The Landmark Conference will select a Senior Scholar Athlete in each of the 19 varsity sports sponsored by the conference over the course of the 2007-08 academic year. Other member institutions of the Landmark Conference are Catholic University of America, Drew University, Goucher College, Moravian College, Susquehanna University, University of Scranton, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
