Christopher Newport 4, Juniata 2 NEWPORT NEWS, Va.. - Facing its third nationally ranked team this week, the Juniata College field hockey team was unable to earn a win in its regular-season finale as the 13th-ranked Eagles fell to 15th-ranked Christopher Newport Saturday afternoon. The Eagles end the regular season 16-3, while Christopher Newport improved to 11-3 on the year. Juniata got the match started right as Heather Hassinger (Middleburg/Middleburg) put Juniata in front just five minutes into the match with a goal. The Pilots answered with a goal midway through the first half as Brittany Touchard scored off a Kelsey Dusch assists to tie the match at one. Christopher Newport then took the lead just minutes into the second half with Ashley Traylor converting a Haylie Black pass to give the home team a 2-1 edge. The Eagles answered with Hassinger scoring her second goal of the game off a penalty corner in the 53rd minute to bring the Eagles level. But the Pilots did all the scoring from there as Rhiannon Thomasson scored an unassisted goal in the 56th minute, and Diana Golden scored off a Thomasson assist with three minutes left to put the match away. Juniata finished with five shots in the match and forced Christopher Newport keeper Ashley Whipple into a pair of saves. Juniata goalkeeper Abby Funk faced 18 shots in goal for the Eagles in the match. Juniata will be back in action on Wednesday as the team opens Commonwealth postseason play. Juniata is the number-three seed and will travel to play at second-seed Messiah College. ###
