Juniata 3, Washington & Lee 0 BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After a solid defensive effort from both teams in the first half, the Juniata College women\'s field hockey team was able to score three times in the second half and beat non-conference opponent Washington & Lee 3-0 Saturday on Winton Hill Field. The victory moved Juniata\'s record to a perfect 9-0 on the season, while Washington & Lee dropped to 5-3 overall. Juniata\'s offense has been the story of the early season but on this day sophomore goalkeeper Abby Funk (Lewistown/Lewistown) was the focus as she produced her fourth-consecutive shutout. Defense and solid goalie play highlighted the first half as Funk made several keys saves to keep the Generals off the scoreboard. In all Funk made nine saves on the afternoon, as Washington & Lee outshot Juniata 10-9. The shutout was her seventh shutout of the season, which ties the Juniata single-season mark. Following the 70 minutes of scoreless play Juniata has now held opponents off the scoreboard for 324-straight minutes. Juniata\'s own offense then got going in the second half as the Eagles knocked home three scores. A penalty corner produced the first goal as Erin Smith (Palmyra/Palmyra) found Leslie Stern (Red Lion/Felton) at the top of the box and she ripped a shot passed goalie Tara Rubenstein to get the Eagles on the board. The Eagles would keep the pressure on the Generals throughout the second half and were able to get a second goal in the 51st minute when off another corner, Michelle Campbell (Northern Lebanon/Annville) found Sarah Bender (Eastern/ York) who found the back of the goal to extend Juniata\'s lead to 2-0. The Eagles would add another seven minutes later when Wagner scored her team leading 22nd goal of the year off a Meredith Low (Sun Valley/Aston) assist to seal the deal for the Blue and Gold. The assist was Low\'s Division III-leading 12th of the year, and ties the Juniata record for assists in a season. Rubenstein finished with four saves in goal for the visiting team. Juniata will be back in action on Tuesday when the Eagles travel to Lebanon Valley for a crucial Commonwealth Conference match. ###
