Juniata 3, Susquehanna 0 SELINSGROVE, Pa. â?? The Juniata College field hockey team scored three goals over a 10-minute stretch that spanned halftime as the Eagles improved to 8-0 with a 3-0 victory over Commonwealth foe Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles are now 3-0 in conference play while the Crusaders dropped to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in the Commonwealth Conference. After a back-and-forth opening stretch which saw neither team create very many chances, Juniata broke through with 3:27 remaining in the first half. Kim Wagner (Middletown/Middletown) converted a Meredith Low (Sun Valley/Aston) cross for her Division III-leading 21st goal of the season, giving Juniata a 1-0 lead. Wagner has now tallied at least one goal in each of Juniata\'s first eight matches. The assist was Low\'s team-leading 11th of the season. The Blue and Gold added to the lead less than five minutes into the first half. Leslie Stern (Red Lion/Felton) came in alone on Susquehanna keeper Lindsay Meabon. Meabon made a sprawling save on the first shot, but Stern drove home the rebound from just inside the scoring circle for her first goal of the year. Stern wasted little time adding her second goal of the year as she collected a long pass from Sarah Bender (Eastern York/York) and blasted it home to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead in the 44th minute. Juniata continued to pressure, but Meaborn would keep the Eagles off the boar the rest of the way as she finished with 10 saves. Susquehanna\'s best chance to cut into the lead came midway through the half when Juniata keeper Abby Funk (Lewisburg/Lewisburg) turned away an Becki Nash shot and then defender Bobbi Rickenbaugh (East Juniata/McAlisterville) cleared an Ashley Rowell shot off the line to preserve the shutout. Funk finished with three saves to earn her sixth shutout of the year. Juniata outshot the home team 21-5 for the match. The Eagles will return to action on Saturday with a non-conference match against Washington & Lee in Huntingdon. ###
