Juniata 6, Albright 0

READING, Pa. ? Sophomore southpaw Andrew Snyder (Punxsutawney/Punxsutawney) tossed a complete-game shutout to help the Juniata College baseball team earn its seventh-consecutive Commonwealth Conference victory as the Eagles topped Albright College 6-0 in Reading Friday afternoon. Victory raised Juniata?s record to 26-9-1 overall, and 15-3-1 in conference play. The 26 victories established a new program-record for wins in a season. Albright dropped to 15-20 on the year and 8-11 in conference action

Snyder improved to 5-2 as he scattered six hits over nine innings to complete his first career shutout. The victory was the fourth complete-game of the season for Snyder who fanned two in the game.

Juniata gave him all the support he would need as the Eagles loaded the bases with one out in the top of the first. Troy Beaver (Bellwood-Antis/Bellwood) then came home on a wild pitch, though Albright starter Jordan Boyer would work out of the jam with no further damage.

Boyer would hold Juniata off the scoreboard another four innings before the Blue and Gold extended the lead to 3-0 with a pair of runs. Will Russell (Tyrone/Tyrone) drove in a run with a single, and Jesse Leonard (Shade/Johnstown) added another RBI single in the frame.

The Eagles would then add one run in the sixth as Beaver delivered an RBI single. The Eagles then capped the scoring with two runs in the top of the eighth as David Saintz (Titusville/Titusville) and Dan Kauffman (Penn Manor/Conestoga) each had run-scoring singles.

Juniata finished the game with 11 hits, and left 13 runners on base.

Albright managed nine base runners in the game, with six hits and three walks from Snyder.

Beaver finished with a team-high three hits for the Eagles, while he scored a pair of runs and drove in one. Saintz had a pair of hits, scored twice and drove in one, while Kauffman had two hits and an RBI.

Nate Ottaviani led Albright with a pair of hits.

Juniata will be back in action on Saturday as the Eagles and Lions complete their three-game series with a doubleheader in Huntingdon.
