SELINSGROVE, Pa. ? The Juniata College men?s tennis team claimed its first conference win of the 2006 and remained unbeaten overall on the strength of a 7-0 sweep of Susquehanna University in Commonwealth action Friday in Selinsgrove. The Eagles are now 7-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while the Crusaders dropped to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in conference action.

Juniata did not drop a set en route to the 7-0 victory, sweeping all six singles matches and earning three doubles wins to earn the doubles point. Juniata?s seven victories are more than the team earned all of last season.

Neil Eicher (Altoona/Altoona) got it started for Juniata with a 6-3, 6-2 win at first singles. Jonathan Skoner (Central Catholic/Pittsburgh) claimed an identical 6-3, 6-2 victory at second singles. Brian Sykes (Gateway Regional/Woodburry Heights, N.J.) kept things rolling with a 7-5, 6-2 win at third singles.

Brandon Long (Lebanon/Lebanon) rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 win at fourth singles. Ryan Navarro (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) was a victor at fifth singles by a 6-2, 6-2 score while Jonathan Cohen (Highland Regional/Hollywood, Fla.) fought through a tough first set to earn a 7-6, 6-3 win at the sixth singles position.

In doubles play, Eicher and Long teamed up to capture an 8-6 win at the first doubles spot. Tom Nelson (State College/State College) and Robert Bowser (Dallastown/York) eased to an 8-0 win at second doubles and Skoner and Jack Walfish (Spring-Ford/Royersford) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 victory at third doubles.

Juniata gets back in action on Monday with a conference match against Albright in Huntingdon.
