Many Strong Finishes For Juniata Track

LANCASTER, Pa.? The Juniata College men?s and women?s indoor track and field teams recorded one of its best all-around team efforts of the season at the non-scored Franklin & Marshall Invitational Friday evening in Lancaster.

Juniata piled up top-six finishes throughout the meet, starting in the jump events for the men. Adam Loser (Central York/York) earned a win in the high jump for the Eagles, and Juniata then got first and second place finishes from Matthew Booth (Allentown Central Catholic/Allentown) and Gary Ondecko (Bishop Carroll/Northern Cambria) respectively in the long jump. Booth then added a first-place finish in the triple jump, while Ondecko placed third. Rounding out the humping efforts was a sixth-place finish effort from Shawn Miller (Altoona/Altoona) in the pole vault.

The men also got some solid work from its track crew, led by Dusty Sier (Smithsburg/Smithsburg, Md.) who placed second in the 55-meter dash fourth in the 200. Ondecko was right behind Sier in third place. Also recording second-place finishes were Mark Modak (Sandy Spring Friends/Gaithersburg, Md.) in the 55-meter hurdles and Justin Fritzius in the mile. Modak also provided a sixth-place effort in the 400, while Fritzius added a fifth-place finish in the 3,000. Rounding out the top-six efforts were a fifth and sixth-place finish from Shawn Rumery (Thornton Academy/Dayton, Me.) and Jeremy Lampert (Portsmouth/Portsmouth, N.H.) respectively in the 800.

The women?s team also enjoyed some solid performances in the field events on the evening. Freshman Kelsey Buffenmeyer (Donegal/Mount Joy) earned a first-place finish in the long jump and added a second-place effort in the high jump. Also producing a top-six finish was Debbie Delaney (Franklin/Reisertown, Md.) who placed third in the weight throw.

The Eagles women?s side also recorded many top finishes on the women?s side, led by a first-place effort from Meredith Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale) in the 200-meter dash. Juniata?s distance runners also enjoyed several strong finishes. Katey Glunt (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) ran to a second-place finish in the 3,000 and was followed by Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) who placed fourth. The duo then traded spots in the one mile run as Hayes placed fifth and Glunt was sixth. Completing the top-six finishes were Pam Campanero (North Arlington/North Arlington, N.J.) and Melissa Konowal (Archbishop Carroll/Philadelphia) who placed fifth and sixth respectively in the 55-meter hurdles.

Juniata will not be in action next weekend, but then returns to action with a meet at Dickinson on February 11.
