FOOTBALL (3-3, 3-3 MAC): Oct. 20, Susquehanna.
Juniata scored 34 straight points to turn a 14-7 first-half deficit into a 41-21 win on the road at Lebanon Valley on Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) contest. The victory was the second straight for the Eagles. Freshman quarterback Greg Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale), who was this past week's MAC Offensive Player of the Week, completed 19 of 35 pass attempts for 349 yards. He finished the day with three passing touchdowns and he ran in from 15-yards out for another score. With the Eagles trailing, 14-7, Troutman led Juniata on a game-tying drive that ended with 10:21 left in the second quarter. Troutman hit senior wide receiver Andy Radomsky (West Branch/Morrisdale) with a five-yard scoring pass that capped a four-play, 70-yard drive that lasted 1:28. Radomsky had three receptions for 35 yards in the game. Troutman and the Eagles responded to a touchdown that the Dutchmen had scored just 1:28 before Juniata's offensive headed back on the field. Senior wide receiver Lucas Kelleher (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona), who ended the day with five catches for 165 yards, hauled in a 48-yard reception to start the drive. In the second half, the Juniata defense held Lebanon Valley to just 81 yards while out-scoring the hosts, 27-7. Troutman hit senior running back Mike Williams (Somerset/Somerset) with a five-yard touchdown pass with 5:57 showing in the third quarter to finish off a nine-play, 59-yard drive. Troutman registered his 15-yard scoring run with 14:50 left in the contest. Following a very short punt by Lebanon Valley, Juniata set up shop at the Dutchmen 29 and four plays later the Eagles were back in the end zone as sophomore running back Craig Moshier (Coudersport Area/Coudersport) raced around the corner off a pitch play for a one-yard scoring run. Moshier, who finished the day with 65 yards on 17 carries and caught four passes for 61 yards, had opened the scoring on the day with a 12-yard touchdown sprint with 1:24 remaining in the first quarter. Junior kicker Dusty Lehr (Bermudian Springs/New Oxford) converted his fifth extra point of the day for a 35-14 Juniata advantage with 11:53 to play. Moshier scored his third touchdown of the day on a 50-yard touchdown pass from Troutman with 7:49 showing on the game clock. The Juniata defense had six sacks on the day, including two each from junior defensive end Fred Taber (Calvert Hall College/Bel Air, MD) and senior defensive end Kevin DeCarlo (Francis Scott Key/Westminster, MD). Taber ended the day with eight tackles, a forced fumble and a pass break up. DeCarlo had five total stops, a fumble recovery and a pass break up. Senior inside linebacker Josh Seiders (Wyomissing/Wyomissing Hills) had 14 tackles to lead Juniata in stops for the sixth straight week. He also had an interception, a forced fumble, and two pass breakups. Junior corner back Paul Evans (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) had his fifth interception of the year.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: Oct. 20 at Gettysburg Invitational.
The Eagles were not in action this past week, but will return to action this coming Saturday at Gettysburg.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: Oct. 20 at Gettysburg Invitational.
Juniata had the week off, but heads down to Gettysburg for an invitational this coming weekend.


WOMEN'S TENNIS (3-7, 2-5 MAC Commonwealth): Oct. 17, Penn State-Altoona.
The Eagles were not in action during the past seven-day stretch. On Wednesday, Juniata will play host to Penn State-Altoona which defeated the Eagles earlier this fall, 8-1.

FIELD HOCKEY (3-11, 2-4 Commonwealth): Oct. 18 at Lebanon Valley.
Juniata traveled to NAIA opponent Houghton on Monday and lost, 2-1. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead 18 seconds into the second half when senior midfielder/forward Kim Kelly (Upper Merion/King of Prussia) registered an unassisted goal. Freshman goalie Melonie Sappe' (Dallas/Shavertown) faced nine shots and made four saves on the evening. Juniata rebounded for a 2-1 overtime victory at Dickinson on Thursday in non-conference action. Sophomore Jean Silvey (Red Lion/Airville) posted the game-winner with 10:02 left in the first extra session. Kelly scored for the second straight contest and gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead early in the second half when she cracked the cage with 21:06 left in regulation. Senior forward Jen Thew (Line Mountain/Herndon) was credited with an assist in Juniata's first goal. Sappe' made one save in the outing. On Saturday, the Eagles hosted Commonwealth foe Albright and dropped a heart-breaking, 1-0 count to the visiting Lions who scored off a penalty stroke early in the second half. Sappe' faced seven shots on the day and made six saves.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL (17-5, 5-0 Commonwealth): Oct. 16 at Elizabethtown; Oct. 19-20, Wid Guisler Invitational at Juniata.
Juniata, ranked fifth in this past week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Poll, opened the week with its 241st consecutive conference victory down at Susquehanna. The Eagles downed the Crusaders, 30-22, 30-22, 30-25, in a match that had two teams tied for first in the Commonwealth Conference battling. Juniata was paced by sophomore opposite Danielle Hart (Central/Roaring Spring) who had 18 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Johanna Holtan (Fargo North/Fargo, ND) ended the night with 14 digs and 11 kills. Senior outside hitter Brandy Workinger (Dallastown/Dallastown) posted nine kills, two aces and two blocks. Junior middle hitter Niki Mueller (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) chipped in with seven kills and two rejections, while freshman middle hitter Erin Wisor (Altoona/Altoona) tallied four kills. Freshman setter Carli Dale (Cochranton/Cochranton) passed out 43 assists to go with her five kills on seven attempts and six digs. On Friday and Saturday, the Eagles journeyed to one of the best Division III tournaments during the 2001 season at Wittenberg and came home with a 3-1 record and a second-place finish on the weekend. On Friday, Juniata defeated second-ranked Mount Saint Joseph, 21-30, 30-24, 23-30, 30-28, 15-13, in come-from-behind fashion. Juniata had to get right back on the court following the physically and emotionally draining victory and proceeded to lose to number-one ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater, 30-28, 30-28, 30-24. Against Mount St. Joseph, Juniata was paced by Hart who had 18 kills, while Holtan ended the match with a team-best 28 digs. Workinger posted 15 kills, while Mueller chipped in with 15 kills and six blocks. Dale had 26 digs and three aces. Versus Wisconsin-Whitewater Holtan had 11 kills, while Hart had 10. Workinger tallied nine kills and 19 digs and Mueller posted eight kills and three blocks. On Saturday, the Eagles defeated host and 12th-ranked Wittenberg, 30-22, 30-18, 30-23, and Thomas More, 30-18, 30-23, 30-27. Hart had 17 kills, Mueller added in 13 kills and Wisor posted 10 kills against Wittenberg. To close the weekend, Hart had 15 kills, while Holtan and Workinger recorded 10 kills during the victory over Thomas More.

MEN'S SOCCER (2-11-3, 0-5-1 Commonwealth): Oct. 23, Messiah.
The Eagles snapped an eight-game winless streak on Thursday with a convincing 3-0 win over visiting Penn State-Altoona at Detwiler Field in Huntingdon. Juniata had a 1-0 lead at halftime thanks to an unassisted goal from freshman back Michael Alianiello (Altoona/Altoona) with 13:00 left in the opening stanza. Senior back/midfielder Joel Abe (Archbishop Hoban/Akron, OH) scored a goal in the second half, while senior midfield/forward Matt Betting (Altoona/Altoona) posted the final net-finder of the day. Junior back Nathan Ayres (Clearfield/Clearfield) assisted on Abe's goal. Senior goalkeeper Chris Zimmerman (Westmont Hilltop/Johnstown) registered his third shutout of the year and made seven saves in the process. On Saturday, Juniata lost its eighth one-goal game of the year with a 1-0 setback at Commonwealth foe Widener. The Pioneers tallied a first-half goal and made it stand up. Zimmerman had five saves on the day.

WOMEN'S SOCCER (6-9-1, 0-5 Commonwealth): Oct. 17, Messiah; Oct. 20 at Elizabethtown.
Juniata began the week by establishing a program record for wins in a season with a 4-0 decision over Penn State-Altoona at Detwiler Field in Huntingdon. The Eagles won for the sixth time this fall, which breaks the former standard of five triumphs set by the 1999 unit. Juniata posted a three-goal first half. Freshman forward Abbey White (Indiana/Indiana) took an assist from junior forward/midfielder Rose Bender (Cambria Heights/Carrolltown) with 19:59 left in the first half to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Freshman forward Erinn Harter (Penn Trafford/Trafford) scored for the sixth time this year, while sophomore midfielder Kim Campanaro (N. Arlington/N. Arlington, NJ) recorded the first of her two assists in the game. Freshman midfielder Janine Smeltz (Line Mountain/Herndon) registered Juniata's final goal of the outing off a Campanaro helper. The Eagles also got an own goal off a Cougar defender. Freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Treon (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) started and got the win after making two saves in 45 minutes of play. Freshman goalkeeper Kira Troutman (Line Mountain/Valley View) had two saves in the second half. On Saturday, Juniata lost at conference rival Widener, 3-1. The Eagles have now lost 10 straight Commonwealth outings. Freshman forward Sarah Lester (Thomas Jefferson/Jefferson Hills) scored Juniata's goal on the day, while Bender was credited with the assist. Bender's helper moved her into a tie for second place on the career assists list on College Hill (7). Troutman went the distance in goal and made 13 saves.
