Altoona, Pa. ? Running against a small field of local college rivals, the Juniata College men?s and women?s cross country teams both claimed top-two team finishes at the Penn State-Altoona Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Juniata men earned a first-place finish as a team in the five-team meet, while the Eagles women?s team placed second among six teams.

WOMEN?S

Katey Glunt (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) notched the top finish for the Juniata women in the race as she cruised home in second place overall. Glunt was just five seconds off the pace as she came home in a time of 19:29.4. Juniata?s second-place runner was Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) who finished fifth overall by running a time of 20:14.6. The Eagles third-through-fifth runners then came home in a pack inside the top-10. It started with Meghan Jones (Meadville/Meadville) who finished eighth overall with a time of 20:40.2 and was the third finisher for Juniata. Sarah Bay (Central Dauphin/Harrisburg) was next for Juniata as she was nine seconds behind Jones to finish ninth in the race. Rounding out the Juniata top-five and the top-10 of the race was Aubrey Cyphert (Seneca/North East) who ran a time of 20:55.4 to cap the scoring positions for the Eagles.
Rebecca VanRegenmorter of Geneva was the top overall finisher in the women?s race.

MEN?S

The Juniata men?s team earned its first-place finish with 32 points, 18 points better than second-place Geneva College. Along with the team victory Juniata senior Chris Sheaffer (Central York/York) was the top overall finisher. Sheaffer covered the 7.5K course in a time of 25:20.8 to earn the victory. Juniata?s second-place finisher was Mike Vella (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) who finished fourth overall with a time of 25:48.9. Mike Chirdon (Riverview/Verona) and Shawn Rumery (Thornton Academy/Dayton, Me.) finished in seventh and eighth-place respectively overall and were the third and fourth runners for the Eagles. The duo finished six seconds apart with Chirdon running 26:06.5 and Rumery covering the course in 26:18.1. Rounding out the top-five for Juniata was Jason Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) who finished 12th with a time of 26:44.5

Juniata will run at the Dickinson Invitational next weekend in what should be a solid mid-season test as the meet should feature many MAC opponents..
