Lycoming 1, Juniata 0

Williamsport, Pa. ? Juniata College got a strong effort from a first-time start in goal, but couldn?t best the goalkeeper at the other end of the field as the Eagles dropped a non-conference outing against Lycoming College 1-0 in Williamsport Saturday afternoon. Juniata is now 1-5-1 with the loss while the Warriors improved to 4-1.

Freshman goalkeeper Kerri Lawrence (Paramus Catholic/Waldwick, N.J.) made her first career start in goal for the Eagles and was impressive, allowing just one goal and recording five saves in 90 minutes. Lawrence was playing in place of Juniata?s regular keeper Lisa Russo (Lakeland/Haskell, N.J.) who suffered an injury in Juniata?s last game.

Lawrence faced 13 Lycoming shots, while Juniata also fired off 13 shots at the Lycoming goal. But the Eagles could not get a ball past Warrior keeper Jessica Bennett who made eight saves to preserve the shutout.

The lone goal of the game came in the 58th minute as a pass from Danielle Curry sprung Sarah Wingerden into a one-on-one situation with the keeper, and Wingerden got the ball past Lawrence for the game?s only goal.

Juniata had eight shots in the final 45 minutes as they tried to equalize. Alicia Walsh (Latrobe/Latrobe) and Lindsay Garvey (Willsboro Central/Essex, N.Y.) each had four shots for Juniata.

The Eagles will return to action next Saturday when they play at Lincoln University.
