Huntingdon, PA - Juniata College women's volleyball player Stephanie Kines (Towson/Towson, Md.) has been Commonwealth Conference women's volleyball player of the week for her efforts in a pair of Juniata victories. Kines picks up the first weekly player of the week award from the conference, and the honor marks the fifth time in her career that she has been selected as the volleyball player of the week by the conference office.

Kines, a junior middle hitter for the Eagles, produced a pair of strong all-around efforts as second-ranked Juniata earned victories over fourth-ranked Wittenberg and Otterbein. Against Wittenberg she knocked out 15 kills while adding six digs, four blocks and a service ace in Juniata's 3-2 win. She followed up that performance by accounting for 17 points with another 15 kills and five blocks and four digs in a 3-0 victory over Otterbein. Her .565 hitting percentage against Otterbein was tops on the team. For the week Kines averaged 3.75 kills per game along with 1.25 blocks, 1.22 digs and 4.44 points.

Kines is coming off a spectacular sophomore season in which she earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) first-team All-America honors as well as All-Region and All-Conference recognition. She led Juniata in kills, hitting percentage and blocks on the year and also ranked fourth on the team in aces. Her .473 hitting percentage during the 2004 season ranked second in NCAA Division III. Kines was also selected to the NCAA All-Tournament Team as she helped Juniata capture the NCAA Division III National Championship.

After posting a 38-3 record claiming the championship in 2004 Juniata opened the 2005 season ranked second in the AVCA/CSTV Division III Top-25 Poll. The Eagles return four starters from last year's team, including a pair of All-Americans. Juniata returns to action this weekend when they take on several top-level Division II teams at the Ashland Invitational.
