Huntingdon, PA - Juniata College junior Walt Goedkoop (Manheim Township/Lancaster) has been named the Commonwealth Conference baseball player of the week for his efforts on the diamond for the Eagles this past week. It marks the second time this season that he has captured the weekly honor, and is the fourth time a Juniata baseball player has been named either the player, or pitcher of the week.

Goedkoop continued his offensive production for Juniata as he helped the Eagles finish 4-3 on the week, and clinch a berth in the Commonwealth Conference postseason. In an 8-0 Juniata victory over Widener that clinched the Eagles' postseason spot, he went 3-for-3 with a solo home run, a pair of doubles and three runs scored. His solo home run in the game brought his RBI total for the season to 43, which established a new Juniata record for RBI in a season. Goedkoop then added to his total with a pair of solo home runs as he went 2-for-3 with three runs scored in a game against Penn State-Altoona. He added one hit apiece in three Eagle victories over Susquehanna, including a bases-loaded double that provided the winning margin in a 7-3 victory. For the week he hit .348 with three home runs, nine runs scored, six RBI and three doubles.

Goedkoop has been one of Juniata's most potent offensive players all season. He leads the team with eight home runs, a total that has moved him into a tie for seventh place in school history with 11 career homers. He is hitting .333 on the season, with a team, and conference-leading 48 RBI. He ranks third on the team with 41 hits, is third with 33 runs scored, and ranks second in doubles. Goedkoop also leads the team with a .610 slugging percentage and is the only player on the team to play and start in all 39 games this season.

With Goedkoop playing a vital role Juniata will begin its defense of the Commonwealth Conference postseason Championship this Thursday at Owls Field in Reading. The four-team, double-elimination competition will run from Thursday to Saturday, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Juniata enters the postseason with a 24-15 overall record.
