Moravian 4, Juniata 3

Bethlehem, Pa.? The Juniata College men?s tennis team earned three singles victories in its season-opening match, but the doubles point proved to be the difference as Juniata dropped a one-point decision to Moravian in Bethlehem Saturday afternoon.

Juniata got victories at the third, fifth and sixth singles positions, and claimed a win at third doubles, but could not secure the one additional point needed for the win. David Bullock (Central Bucks East/Jamison) earned the 6-1, 6-3 win at the third singles spot for Juniata. Also claiming a win was Tom Nelson (State College/State College) who claimed a number-five singles triumph by a score of 6-3, 7-5. Romain Plessis (Catholic University of Lille/Brassens, France) earned a marathon win at the sixth singles position as he posted a 6-7 (7-5), 3-6, 7-5 victory.

Plessis was also a member of Juniata?s successful doubles team as he joined with Brian Sykes (Gateway Regional/Woodburry Heights, N.J.) to post an 8-5 win at third doubles.

The Eagle tennis team returns to action on Tuesday when the Eagles travel to take on Penn State-Altoona.
