Pittsburgh, Pa. ? The Juniata College women?s swimming team began competition at the ECAC Championships on Friday afternoon as the Eagles had competitors swimming in a pair of events in the afternoon prelims.

Swimming against some of the top Division I teams in the East, Juniata posted a 13th-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The Eagle quartet of Dana Gais (Kiski Area/Saltsburg), Allison Sweigart (Muhlenberg/Reading), Kathy Trainor (Upper Merion/King of Prussia) and Amy Sutherland (Norwich/Norwich, N.Y.) recorded a time of 1:44.26 to earn the 14th-place finish. The Eagles placed ahead of the Adelphi?s Swim Team and SUNY New Paltz.

Juniata also had a pair of swimmers race in the 50-yard freestyle in the afternoon preliminaries. Gais swam to a 39th-place finish as she recorded a time of 26.00. Right behind her in 40th position was Trainor who touched the wall in a time of 26.18. Neither swimmer was able to qualify for the evening?s finals.

Juniata will have two more individuals perform on the final day of the Championships when Trainor races in the 100-yard freestyle and Sutherland will compete in the 200-yard backstroke.
