Elizabethtown 62, Juniata 49

Huntingdon, PA. ? A cold shooting night for the Juniata College women?s basketball team kept the Eagles from earning a home conference victory as the Eagles dropped a 62-49 decision to Elizabethtown in Huntingdon Wednesday night. Juniata fell to 5-16 overall and 1-10 in conference play with the loss, while the Blue Jays upped their mark to 9-10 overall and 5-5 in the Commonwealth.

Juniata finished the game shooting 31-percent from the field hitting 18-of-58 shots on the game. Things were particularly cold in the first half as Juniata converted eight baskets and had 20 points at the intermission.

The Eagles trailed by just five at the 5:17 mark in the first half after a jumper from Jill Walsh (Ferndale/Johnstown). Elizabethtown then closed the half on a 9-3 run to head into the locker room with an 11-point edge.

The Eagles slowly chipped away at the lead in the opening minutes of the half using a 7-0 run to pull within four at 13:46. Jess Winemiller (Dallastown/York) drilled a three during the stretch that put Juniata back into the game. But Elizabethtown quickly answered, putting together a 12-1 run over the next five minutes as Juniata?s offense again went cold. Juniata went nearly six minutes without a field goal as the visitors put the game away.

Winemiller finished with a team-high 15 points and grabbed six rebounds for Juniata. Katie O?Brien (South Western/Hanover) added 14 points and a team-high eight boards for Juniata. Both players were 6-of-12 from the field, while the rest of the team was just 6-of-34.

Erin Walton came off the bench to pace Elizabethtown with 15 points as she went 9-of-14 from the foul line. Amanda Reid and Cristin Braun chipped in 12 and 11 points respectively while Jen Roberts and Dana Voit each pulled down eight rebounds. Megan Wolfe led all players with four assists.
