York 88, Juniata 51

York, Pa. ? The Juniata College men?s basketball team traveled to York College (Pa.) Monday in search of its second victory in as many games and hoping to gather some momentum heading into the winter break. That momentum will now need to begin anew in Juniata?s final game of the semester Wednesday night as the Eagles ran into a hot Spartan (9-1) team that handed Juniata (2-7) an 81-55 setback Monday night.

The Eagles had a pair of players in double figures on the night with Aaron Chamberlain (Tussey Mountain/Wood) and Justin Price (Mount Union/Mount Union) each finishing with 10 points. Tommy McConnell (Bishop Guilfoyle/Hollidaysburg) passed out a team-best five assists and added three steals for the Eagles.

Brian Singer scored 17 points to lead five Spartans in double figures while also grabbing a team-high seven rebounds. Kenny Fass scored 16 points, with Chad McGowan notching 12 points and seven boards. Ben Seibert also pulled in seven rebounds while adding 11 points while Brandon Bushey scored ten points. Bushey also became the 17th York player to score 1,000 points for his career with a basket early in the second half.

As has been the problem in recent games, the Eagles got off to a slow start. On this occasion Juniata shot 26-percent from the field in the first half, while York knocked down 58-percent of its shots in the first 20 minutes. The home team pulled out to an early 13-5 lead with a three from Fass at the 14:52 mark. A three from Juniata?s Travis Boyd (Juniata Valley/Barree) got Juniata back within five, only to see the Spartans put together a 15-4 run over the next six minutes to take a 16-point edge.

The Eagles answered that surge with a 7-0 run of their own highlighted by a three from Chamberlain. Trailing 28-19 with 3:27 left in the half, the Eagles went cold as York closed the half with a 10-3 spurt to push the lead back into double-digits.

Juniata?s shooting improved in the second half as the Blue and Gold tossed in 33 points, but they were unable to get the lead down under 15 in the final 20 minutes.
The Eagles will wrap-up first semester play when they host Washington & Jefferson for a non-conference tilt.
