Juniata 3, Widener 0

Huntingdon, Pa. ? On senior night in Memorial Gym the Juniata College women?s volleyball team got big contributions from each of its four seniors as the Eagles topped Commonwealth Conference foe Widener 3-0 in Memorial Gym Wednesday night.

Juniata improved its record to 21-3 overall and 6-0 in conference play, while the Pioneers fell to 17-13 and 3-3 in the conference. The Eagles took the match by game scores of 30-15, 30-19 and 30-20.

On the team?s final regular-season non-tournament home match of the season the Eagles honored their four seniors before the start of the match. Each of the four then went on to make big contributions in the victory. Setter Carli Dale (Cochranton/Cochranton) finished the match with 36 assists, five digs and a team-high five aces. Four of those aces came in game one as Dale helped Juniata to an earl 11-4 lead, and then added two more late to cap the 30-15 win.

Senior Katie Charles (Manheim Township/Lancaster) posted seven kills, four digs and a pair of blocks including a pair of kills in game two. Leading 8-5 early, Juniata was sparked by four straight aces from Katie Laucks (West York/York) to push the lead to 12-5. Another senior, Erin Wisor (Altoona/Altoona) had eight kills on the match, two of them coming down the stretch in the 30-19 game-two win.

Juniata?s fourth senior Lindsey Habel (Glen Oak/Canton, Ohio) paced Juniata?s defensive effort with 10 kills including several early on in game three as Juniata rushed to a comfortable 12-1 lead. A kill from Amy Ressler (Hempfield/East Petersburg) extended the Eagle lead to 22-7. Widener would mount a comeback getting a pair of aces and two kills from Kaitlyn Sharkey to cut the deficit to 27-17. Another kill from Ressler closed the match with a 30-20 win.

Laucks led Juniata with 16 kills offensively, while Stephanie Kines (Towson/Towson, Md.) posted three blocks. Tara McMinn (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) added nine digs defensively for the Blue and Gold.

Chrissy Murrin paced the Pioneer offense with seven kills in the match.

Juniata will return to action on Friday night when the Eagles play two matches on the first day of the ?Wid? Guisler Invitational in Huntingdon.
