HUNTINGDON, Pa -- Ruth Rosen, editorial writer and columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle, will give a talk at Juniata College on "Weapons of Mass Deception" at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 30 in Neff Lecture Hall in the von Liebig Center for Science on the Juniata campus.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Rosen has been an editorial writer for the Chronicle since 2000, and also serves as a member of the paper's editorial board.

Before becoming a journalist, Rosen was a professor of history at the University of California, Davis from 1974 to 2000. Now a professor emerita of history at the university, Rosen devotes most of her time to her editorial career.

While she taught at the university, Rosen established her reputation as a columnist by writing more than 150 op-ed essays in such newspapers and magazines as the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Christian Science Monitor and the Chronicle of Higher Education. She also writes longer essays for such journals and magazines as Dissent, Tikkun and the Women's Review of Books.

She also has published several books on the history of women in America, including "The World Split Open: How the Modern Women's Movement Changed America" and "The Lost Sisterhood: Prostitution in America."

She earned a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Rochester (N.Y.) in 1967. She went on to earn a master's degree in art history at the University of California, Berkeley in 1969 and earned a doctorate in history in 1976 at Berkeley.
