Juniata 13, Mount Aloysius 0

Cresson, Pa. ? The Juniata College women?s soccer team extended its winning streak to two in resounding fashion as the Eagles topped Mount Aloysius 13-0 in Cresson on Thursday afternoon. Juniata improved its record to 2-3-1 with the victory.

Pacing Juniata?s offense was senior forward Rebecca Shoaf (Madison/Madison, N.J.) who scored five goals in 25 minutes of game action. Shoaf gave Juniata the early edge as she scored three goals in the first 15 minutes of the first half. Lindsey Treon (Hollidaysburg/Duncansville), Lauren Welsh (Westminster/Finksburg, Md.) each assisted on Shoaf?s first two tallies, then Kelly Howard (Johnstown/Johnstown) and Nikki McLellan (Parkland/Hanover) both earned assists on the third score of the game. Sarah Lester (Thomas Jefferson/Jefferson Hills) added the final goal of the half off an assist from Amanda Rice (James Buchanan/Greencastle).

Lisa Ruso (Lakeland/Haskell, N.J.) played the first 45 minutes in goal for the Eagles, and was not forced to make a save. Gloria-Ann Seel (Mainland/Northfield, N.J) saw her first collegiate action in goal in the second half, keeping Juniata?s shutout intact.

The goals continued to fly for Juniata in the second half as the team added nine second-half tallies.

Shoaf got things rolling again, this time with an unassisted score. Heather McMinn (Indian Valley/Reedsville) then knocked in her first collegiate goal off an assist from Lindsay Garvey (Willsboro Central/Essex, N.Y.). McMinn?s score came at the 49-minute mark, and would be the first of her three goals in the game. The freshman added two more goals in the final 10 minutes of the half, assisted by McLellan and Rice.

Following McMinn?s first goal, Shoaf scored her fifth goal of the match in the 54th minute. Treon added her first career off an assist from McMinn. Garvey followed with her second goal of the season, knocking home a pass from Lester.

Juniata poured in two more goals in the final two minutes with McLellan scoring her first tally of the season with an assist from Lester. Welsh then capped the scoring with Lester adding one more assist with 40 seconds left in the game.

Juniata out-shot the home team 35-2 in the victory. Mount Aloysius keeper Jen Fultz made 17 saves in the contest.

The Eagles will open their conference schedule on Saturday when they host Widener.
