(Posted December 4, 2024)

WASHINGTON, DC – Juniata College has been recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN) as a 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting. The ALL IN Most Engaged Campuses for College Student Voting recognizes colleges and universities for outstanding efforts to increase nonpartisan student voter participation. Juniata College joins a group of 471 colleges and universities recognized by ALL IN for completing four core actions:

            •           Participating in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge

            •           Sharing 2022 NSLVE Reports with campus voting data with ALL IN

            •           Developing and submitting a 2024 democratic engagement action plan with ALL IN

            •           Having a current signatory to ALL IN’s Higher Education Presidents’ Commitment to Full Student Voter Participation.

“The work of our campus ALL IN for Democracy team underscores the power of civil and civic discourse and reinforces the relevance and meaning of elections,” said Juniata College Provost Lauren Bowen. “Our team provided voter education and mobilized voter registration and participation. I am grateful to the coalition for their considerable and noteworthy efforts.”

“The research is clear: colleges and universities that make intentional efforts to increase nonpartisan democratic engagement have higher campus voter registration and voter turnout rates. This year we saw more colleges than ever before step up their efforts to ensure that their students were registered and ready to make their voices heard at the ballot box,” said Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, Executive Director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. “These Most Engaged Campuses are setting the standard for nonpartisan civic engagement work for colleges and universities across the country.”

A strategic series of events and speakers focused on voter registration, education, and mobilization were held on campus leading up to, on, and after the 2024 presidential election as part of Juniata’s commitment to the ALL-IN Campus Democracy Challenge. Speakers Henry Olsen, columnist for the Washington Post, Bennett Rae ’10, host of “Cooking with Congress, and Meena Bose, executive dean of public policy at Hofstra University, and events including debate watch parties, voter registration drives, panel discussions, candidate forums, book displays, and campus debates, served to develop civic participation including voting.

Juniata's ALL IN for Democracy team includes Dennis Plane, Sarah Worley ’00, Bryce Garland ’27, Charlotte Ridge, Derek James, Shane Moran, and Deb Roney, representing diverse campus constituencies including the communication and politics departments, the Center for Community Engagement, the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, Statton Learning Commons, and representatives from the local chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW). The team's considerable efforts to educate and mobilize voters set a tone on campus that underscores the power of civil and civic discourse and reinforces the relevance and meaning of elections.
