HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Juniata College will host alum and state Rep. Ben Waxman ’07 as the G. Graybill Diehm Speaker in Political Science at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, in Sill Boardroom, von Liebig Center for Science.

Waxman will share his perspective on how the education he received at Juniata College served to kick-start his career in public service. This trajectory resulted in his November 2022 election to the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives to represent the 182nd legislative district in Center City Philadelphia.

His political experience began at a young age as he worked with campaigns soon after the Sept. 11 attacks to abolish the death penalty and establish civil liberties. Following his graduation from Juniata, Waxman served on the editorial board of the Philadelphia Daily News and reported on local government for WHYY. He later worked with United Food and Commercial Workers to unionize Walmart employees. Waxman then spent four years as the communications director for the state Senate Democratic Appropriations Committee and for state Sen. Vincent Hughes. Prior to his election, Waxman was the communication director for the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office and served as the spokesperson for the District Attorney.

This event is open to the public and a light meal will be provided. For more information, please contact Amy Rosica at rosical19@juniata.edu.
