HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Lois Moses, a celebrated poet and actress, will create a dramatic program at Juniata College honoring Martin Luther King Jr. that combines spoken-word poetry, theatre and music in "Celebrating the Dream…The Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr." at 4 p.m., Monday, Jan. 19, in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts.

The program is free and open to the public.

"Celebrating the Dream" explores the legacy of Martin Luther King and the struggle for civil rights, through spoken-word performance and music. Her programs focus on the voices of African-American women speaking for themselves in an effort to heal from a challenging past.

Moses has toured throughout the United States with this presentation as well as such productions as "No More Blues/Black Woman," "No Child Should be…Left Behind" and her most recent work, "Beyond Sound and Fury: Sacrifice and the True Poetic Voice."

She also is involved in several other literary projects, most notably, "Poe-X," which creates panel discussions and workshops with poets, and the "National Black Authors Tour."

She has self-published three book of her poems and produced a CD of her spoken-word poetry performances.

Moses also has extensive theatre experience as an actor, performing with Pittsburgh's Kuntu Repertory and the National Black Theatre of Harlem. She was a cast member in the National Black Theatre of Harlem productions of "Wade in the Water" and "Lady of Fadima."

She earned a bachelor's degree in communication and went on to earn a master's degree in theatre at UCLA. She works as an acting instructor and playwright/director for Freedom Theatre in Philadelphia. She also is a member of The Actor's Studio.
