HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Emily Hauser, a senior at Juniata College from Mount Lebanon, Pa. studying international politics, has received a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship from Rotary International to study for a year at a graduate program at a university in Nigeria.

Hauser, the daughter of Ernie and Susan Hauser of Mount Lebanon, has not found out which graduate program in Nigeria she will participate in, but she hopes to study international politics at the University of Abuja, in the capitol city of Abuja.

Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships were founded in 1947 and have funded nearly 38,000 international scholars in more than 70 countries, with grants totaling more than $500 million. While abroad, the students serve as goodwill ambassadors to the host countries and travel to give presentations about their homelands to Rotary Clubs and other service organizations.

When Hauser returns to the United States, she also will give presentations at Rotary Clubs in Pennsylvania.

The Nigerian experience will not be her first experience in Africa. She studied abroad in a Juniata summer program at the University of The Gambia in The Gambia in summer 2007.

Hauser also studied abroad in France in fall 2007 at the Catholic University of Lille.

In 2007, she received a Finnegan Fellowship and worked at a summer internship in the Pennsylvania Department of Education. During her internship she contributed to the agency's International Education Report. In fall 2008, she attended the Republican National Convention, where she worked for a European photo agency.

In addition to her international experiences, Hauser also played varsity basketball all four years during her Juniata career. She is the secretary for the Student Government Executive Board and is a member of the French Club. She also works as a tutor for international politics classes.
